CO2 footprint: an opportunity for the plastics industry

Rising energy and raw material prices see plastics processing companies face new challenges. "Reducing the CO2 footprint even faster gives companies leeway. Competitiveness and resilience are boosted," as Dr. Gerhard Dimmler, CTO of the ENGEL Group, emphasises in the run-up to K 2022. "ENGEL is the role model when it comes to solutions that save CO2 in injection moulding. And that is precisely what we are demonstrating in Düsseldorf this October."

Processing rPET in thin wall injection moulding

In cooperation with partners ALPLA Group, Brink and IPB Printing, ENGEL is presenting a quantum leap for the packaging industry at K 2022. For the first time, thin-walled containers made of PET can be produced in a single injection moulding process step. Austrian injection moulding machine manufacturer ENGEL is processing recycled material (rPET) at its stand. An ENGEL e-speed injection moulding machine with a newly-developed and extremely powerful injection unit is being used to do this.

Easily define process window and quality via parameter limits

A prerequisite for a stable production process and consistently high product quality is the correct setting of all process parameters on the injection molding machine. However, mistakes happen time and again. The new Parameter Limits feature provides a remedy. It supports injection molders in keeping the parameters constant within a process window.

High recycling quality directly from plastic flakes

With a new process, ENGEL makes it possible to process plastic waste as flakes in injection moulding directly after grinding. Since granulation as a separate process step is no longer required, the innovation significantly increases energy and cost efficiency in plastics recycling. At K2022, ENGEL will present the new two-stage process for the first time with a live exhibit at a trade fair. At the ENGEL booth in the Circular Economy Forum in the open-air area between Halls 11 and 16, rollable logistics load carriers, so-called dolly pallets, will be produced.
