Biokomp®

What is Biokomp®?
Biokomp® is a Kompuestos brand, which provides high-performance compostable solutions to our clients. We aim to preserve and take care of our ecosystem by introducing renewable resources.  Biokomp® is a necessary initial step towards a sustainable production process that is consistently thriving, to ensure quality and optimal solutions down the whole value chain.

What is Biokomp® made of?
Biokomp® is a family of biodegradable resins made from different starches such as corn, potato, cereals, and other biologically sourced polymers. Our resins are designed to run on existing standard industrial equipment, offering the opportunity to completely replace traditional plastics.

Biokomp® resins can be processed by conventional extrusion, cast film, blown, sheet, extrusion coating, and injection molding lines without extra technological investment.

Biokomp® is completely biodegradable and compostable. These two properties allow a plastic packaging material to be recovered through the organic recycling of solid waste (composting and anaerobic digestion) and are specified by the European standard EN 13432.

Why Use Biokomp®?
1. To save raw material resources
Biokomp completely substitutes petroleum-derived polymers for a bio-based degradable resources proceeding from different starches., while maintaining and enhancing properties for packaging.

2. To use renewable and sustainable resources
Biokomp has been certified as biodegradable and compostable having met the necessary qualification requirements, specified by the EN 13432 standard. Meaning it not only uses  starches as a  resource but the product itself helps the further replenishment of its main resource. Consequently,  creating a balanced and sustainable raw material. 

3. Transformation technologies
Biokomp resins can be processed by extrusion, cast film, blown and injection moulding, using conventional equipment with no need of special investments.

4. To Reduce the Carbon footprint
Using Biokomp as a substitute to traditional plastics would imply a significant reduction on the Carbon footprint.

A report from the Commission to the European Parliament and The Council, announces its plans to limit the use of "oxo-degradable" plastic, including oxo-degradable plastic carrier bags, on the environment.

Okean®

The Leading Solution for Plastics.
Okean is a plastic designed to be completely biodegradable in water. The Kompuestos team has refined new methods to go that one extra step in order to secure rivers and the sea life.

Okean can biodegrade in water at natural environments and when exposed to marine sediments from coastal areas, a habitat where a lot of plastic waste ends up. It biodegrades in relatively short times, ultimately being converted into carbon dioxide and water.

Since it is essentially bio-based, it produces less carbon dioxide than fossil-based polymers and can contribute to the prevention of global warming.
