Microextruders projected to solve problems as regards microproduction of medicines and biopolymers to satisfy the requirements for extrusion and co-extrusion of normal technical profiles. We offer therefore a wide range of microextruders for productions from few grams per hour up to some kilos per hour. They are well used in plastic, chemical, pharmaceutical and medical industry, centres of research and universities. These microextruders are able to extrude all thermoplastic materials such as PVC, PU, PE, PP, PC, PA, PMMA, PSU, PBT, LCP, PLG, PEEK, FEP, ETFE, PVDF etc. in shapes and dimensions of granules normally used in commerce. For extrusion of powder or microspheres, we offer proper studied screw and barrel units. It is also possible to supply plasticization units manufactured from intergranular-corrosion resistant materials or scoring resistant materials and/or strong materials against high temperatures. Our machines are projected in order to give the highest reliability for a continuous service 24 hours above 24 hours even under pressures until 500 Bar with a high precision capacity. This machines are equiped with a breaking prevent screw protection through safety joint at calibrated breaking. They offer the possibility to work in horizontal position, vertical and intermediate inclinations.

We offer a wide range of co-extruders satisfy the request of compact machines Ø25mm - Ø35mm, versatile and strong, which allow to extrude in standard version with pressures till 1000 Bar. GIMAC co-extruders can be assembled on one of the many available supports for any exigency, solving the often problem of reduced space. This assembly enables our co-extruders to extrude in horizontal and vertical position and in intermediate inclinations, keeping a high precision capacity, thanks to the feed zones duly studied.

Plant for monolayer PA - PU tubes
The extrusion plant for the production of PA and PU calibrated tubes by compressed air, is extremely innovative in its kind, since it is electronically managed by a control and supervision system. Through a 2 axes laser measure head, the system measures and visualizes the outer diameter of the tube, and if necessary, it is able to adjust the vacuum degree automatically, through a motorized valve. Moreover a ultrasound thickness gauge continuously finds and visualizes the wall thickness of the tube, in 4 points and automatically changes the line speed, if necessary.
The "formulas" which can be memorised from the system, will enable to reproduce the same operative conditions automatically.
The continuous and automatic control of the extruded product, assures a high and constant precision of the same, enabling to document the whole productive cycle, favouring in this way the ISO certification of the product.
If the operator changes the speed, the system automatically corrects all process parameters, respecting the dimensional set up quotes.
The system manages every machine adjusting: - temperature - water levels and water reset as regards the two closed cooling circuits of the calibration unit as well as the two cooling tanks - vacuum degree for the calibration of the product - and haul-off speed.

Micro plant for tubes up to 3 layers
GIMAC has realised a new co-extrusion micro-plant for production of 3-components single filaments and small tubes calibrated and not calibrated, suitable for laboratories and/or for medical and pharmaceutical use (i.e. catheters and micro-encapsulated drugs).
The plant, 4.5 m long, includes: 3 micro-extruders Ø12 mm., 3 control cabinets, 1 head, 1 vacuum calibrating unit with cooling unit, 1 haul-off.
The plant allows production of small tubes with OD ranging from 1 to 4 mm., made from rigid and soft materials up to 3 layers or single layer tubes with one or more stripes (i.e. radio opaque stripes). The plant can be completed with a supervision unit and a diameter control system. The output of the plant equipped with 3 micro-extruders (Ø12 or Ø14 or Ø18 mm) can vary from a minimum of 200 g/hour up to around 10 kg/hour.
Often our plants enable competitive commercial products to became winning products and this due to 2 essential properties : Our machines are able to run either grains or powders of polymers without spoiling determinant chemical-physical property like molecular weight or mechanical resistance, even in materials like PLLA HMW or other bio-absorbable polymers.
Thanks to the synergy between mechanical part, electronic control and software it is possible not only to guarantee excellent tolerances, but also to manufacture in a continuos way tubes and catheters with variable diameters, thickness, rigidities and coatings. Such characteristic can dramatically reduce the production costs allowing for istance to avoid some processes such as: welding of flexible segments or connectors extruding directly in continuous tubes with conical extremity and variable flexibility. The materials that can be processed are : conventional polymers, fluoropolymers (FEP, ETFE), high temperature polymers (LCP, PSU, PI and PEEK), bio-absorbable polymers (PLLA, PLG), bio-compatible or even bio-active polymers, pharmaceutical active principle matrix, ceramic materials and more over, metallic materials.
