Antimicrobial Fabric and Nonwoven Textiles

Antimicrobial Polyurethane Foam

What is Antimicrobial Polyurethane Foam?
Polyurethane foam can provide all the requirements for bacteria, mold, yeast and algae to grow and flourish.  Some polyurethane foams use “greener” ingredients that become a fantastic food source for microbes.  Other types of foam, thought to be naturally resistant to microbial growth, collect organic debris from the surrounding environment.

Both types of foam are prone to the damaging effects of microbial action over time.  Likewise, both foam types benefit from the use of antimicrobial additives.

Antimicrobial additives prevent unwanted effects of microbial growth, including mal-odors, staining and product degradation.  Their mode of action depends on the active ingredient used.

Antimicrobial Flooring, Carpet and Rugs

Flooring, carpets and rugs can frequently be a source of unwanted microbes.  Fungi can flourish in moist areas under soft flooring materials and create musty odours and loss of product integrity.

Antimicrobial Coatings

Antimicrobial coatings are coatings that are treated with an antimicrobial agent and applied to a surface to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew or algae.

PVC, latex, polyurethane, ink, paint, lacquer, powder coatings, etc. are coated onto hard surfaces or textiles to create goods with new properties or features.  Regardless of their nature, most coatings are susceptible to bacterial, fungal and/or algal growth.
