PHILOPLAST TM

PHILOPLAST TM OVERVIEW
This range, offered by the Indian leading producer of dyes – PHILODEN Industries Pvt. Ltd. – is build on especially selected Polymer Soluble Colorants for the mass coloration of a wide variety of synthetic polymers.

In this product line PHILOPLAST, we merge an extensive palette of dyes of different coloristics and based on different chemistries; but all of them fulfilling the strictest requirements for mass coloration of polyesters and other engineering plastics and provide maximum flexibility to our customers.

Whether widely used colorants with focus on best economics, or products which are top regarding their technical performance, all the colorants or preparations offered by PHILODEN are produced – and tested for their quality – according state-of-the-art technology and global standards.

The PHILOPLAST products are controlled and certified on batch level in order to guarantee a constant and reliable quality and to provide maximum value to customers.

In addition to the above PHILOPLAST range are tested as per the below tests:
  • AZO DYES — as per EN-14362-1 :2012
  • POLYCHLORINATED BI PHENYL CONTENT — as per AP(89)1
  • HEAVY METALS — as per AP(89)1
  • SULFONATED AROMATIC AMINES — as per AP(89)1
  • TOXIC ELEMENTS MIGRATION TEST — as per EN71-3 :2013 +Al:2014
  • CHLORINATED ORGANIC CARRIERS — as per DIN 5432: 2010
In all the above tests no critical concentrations or harmful substances were detected.


THE PRODUCT
Currently, more than 30 products are offered in the PHILOPLAST range.

Based on generic name, they can be grouped into Solvent Dyes, Disperse Dyes and Pigments. In this regard, Pigments are – other than their name suggest – polymer soluble.

In molten polymer, they dissolve- the level of dissolution depends on sheer forces applied during processing, dwell time in the molten polymer and also on the temperature of the polymer melt.

For the PHILOPLAST range, various criteria have been applied for the selection of products. It offers products for various end-uses keeping in mind the economics of coloration.
The current range also includes few Azo Dyes. These do not harm human health since no amines – listed on the German Azo Ban Document – are detected during cleavage.

A respective certificate is available on request.

TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE
Besides the attractive coloristics that polymer soluble dyes are generally offering, their heat stability has always been a main concern.

PHILODEN is aware of that, and screenings all its products for heat stability using thermal analysis and plastic relevant heat stability test according to DIN EN1277-2.

In addition to the above various tests where the colorants are exposed to light under different conditions and other fastness tests are also carried out. These tests give the over all picture of the performance of the products.


PRODUCT USE
Although having different chemical structure, all the products of the PHILOPLAST range can be combined with each other; they are fully compatible.
Also combinations with Carbon Black (Pigment Black 7), Titanium dioxide (TiO2) or with additives like e.g. PHILOWHITE are possible.
The products’ good heat stability allows their use in a wide variety of engineering plastics and for a broad palette of applications.
Based on internal testing and the market feedback, PHILOPLAST products can be used according to following polymer recommendations, whereby mainly PBT, rarely PET is used for the preparation of high-end masterbatches or compounds.

With these products, the Indian leading producer of solvent dyes - PHILODEN Industries Pvt. Ltd. - is offering selected Pigments which are suitable for a wide variety of applications. FAST in the word PHILOFAST implies, the focus of this range is given to pigments providing good fastness properties.

Even though some of the pigments exhibit superior fastness properties compared to other products of this range, every single pigment offers the maximum cost to performance ratio.

Whether widely used pigments with focus on best economics, or products with superior technical performance, the pigments offered by PHILODEN are produced - and tested for their quality – according to state-of-the-art technology and global standards.

As with all the products from PHILODEN, PHILOFAST range is manufactured using excellent-grade materials for proficient performance and controlled on batch level in order to guarantee a constant and reliable quality and to provide maximum value to customers.
It goes without saying, that a comprehensive certificate of analysis for every production batch is provided.

 
THE PRODUCT
Today, the PHILOFAST range consists of organic pigments with different colors and chemistries; all of them widely used in various industries and not just for mass coloration of plastics.
Since this range is under active development, there are more products to come in the near future.

PHILOFAST efficiently disperses within a resin matrix. Widely used technology in order to disperse the pigments for solid master batches or compounds in an appropriate carrier is the extrusion process.

With the exception of Pigment Yellow 147, Pigment Yellow 196 and Pigment Orange 70, which can be partly dissolved in molten polymers, the PHILOFAST products are insoluble in the matrix they are applied.

Since pigments always tend to form agglomerates/aggregates, they have to be processed into color concentrates in order to get the best coloristic and color strength during down stream processing.
Depending on the polymer matrix, also batch- or continuous-kneaders, calendars or high speed mixers can be used.

Common technology used for production of pasty or liquid preparation can also involve dissolvers or wet-mills.

With this pigment range, PHILODEN is providing high quality products which gives its customers all the flexibility needed to select the best product for specific needs.

TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE
Compared to polymer soluble products which dissolv in molten polymer, pigments are not soluble. In order to obtain the maximum coloristic value, they have to be dispersed in the polymer. Since this is not possible during the form giving process step (e.g. spinning or moulding), this dispersion step has to take place before processing. This means, that the final value of the coloration with a pigment or even with a polymer soluble dye, strongly depends on the skills of the masterbatcher.

PHILODEN offers their products in a form which supports this preparation, either by providing controlled particle size and PSD or by providing relevant data like specific surface or oil absorption.This enables the masterbatcher to optimise its processing conditions and formulations.
Besides the good fastness properties, our pigments generally offer superior heat stability. PHILODEN screens all the products for their stability using thermal analysis.

PHILONOL TM

PHILONOL TM OVERVIEW
Under the trade mark PHILONOL, we offer a range of liquid soluble dyes for the coloration of petroleum products, synthetic oils and lubricants, liquids for hydraulic systems and candle wax.
Our products offer high solubility and miscibility with aromatic high-flash systems.
Thanks to low viscosity, the liquid dyes can be pumped, poured or metered directly into the medium to be marked.

 
THE PRODUCT
PHILODEN is supplying the liquid dyes singly and also as blends; on request also as tailor made shade.

Solutions are stable even when stored over long period.
Due to the facts that all the products exhibit excellent miscibility in organic solvents, the production of blends doesn’t require special equipment. The liquids can be stirred-in into solvents without a lot of effort.

TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE
When blended with fuels or petroleum products, our dyes do not influence the performance of the fuels or petroleum products. They are added in very low concentrations(typically <10 ppm) and they just act as a color marker.
The properties of the fuel, diesel or kerosene is not altered by addition of our dyes and they also do not interfere with the incineration process in heating burners or injection jets as installed in diesel- or gasoline-engines.


PRODUCT USE
The main application field is Fiscal Fuel Marking.

When dissolved in fuel, our dyes ensures, that the fuel is taxed at the appropriate levels which is crucial to the economic development within the fiscal infrastructure.

The products can be used singly or in blends in order to match custom shades.

Typical end-uses we find in the coloration/marking of:

Coloration of fuel or diesel also allows to distinguish between different grades of fuel, it allows easy corporate identification and supports prevention of fuel theft.

PHILOPON TM

PHILOPON TM OVERVIEW
With this range, PHILODEN offers a versatile range of dyes that find its use in the production of wood staining and lacquers.

All the products of this range are available in a wide variety of colors, fulfil the standards typically required for such applications.


SOLVENT BORN WOOD STAINING
Besides paints, wood stains are used as alternative way to color wooden articles.
Different than paints which normally provide hiding power, wood stains made of PHILOPON dyes, allow the coloration of wood without hiding the attractive structure and pattern of natural wood and therefore maintaining the character of the grown wood. After treated with stains, wood often needs a top coat for protection since staining just provides coloration.


SOLVENT BORN LACQUERS
This is another field of applications for which our products from the PHILOPON range are the first choice.

Dissolved in organic solvent systems together with a suitable resin (e.g. acrylate), our range of dyes can become the toolbox which allows to cover an extended color space.

Such lacquers can be applied on porous and non-porous surfaces in order to achieve a transparent coating.

When applied on reflective surfaces like metal foils, lacquers produced from our dyes can show their full potential regarding coloristic and transparency.

For the production of solvent born wood staining, PHILODEN offers a comprehensive range of organic dyes which allows to mix the entire palette of typical wood shades.

With our products, which can be combined with each other, we provide the perfect basis for antique, rustic but also for modern decoration of interior and exterior wooden articles.

Compared to pigment based staining, dye based products don’t require any auxiliaries or additives. They are stir-in-products and don’t require complex technical equipment for the dissolving step.
Soluble solvent dyes have a versatile nature.

With this range, we offer dyes which have very good solubility in organic solvents like Ethanol, Ethyl Acetate, MEK, Methoxy- and Ethoxy-Propanol, Cellosolves, Benzyl Alcohol and in other Aliphatic and Aromatic Solvents. Solutions thereof do not get precipitated even after long term storage.

Please refer to the table below for detail result on resistance towards chemicals and foodstuff. Note: Although some food (butter, oil and cheese) are used for testing of liposoluble migration, the products from our PHILOPON range are not intended to be used in direct contact with any kind of food since the dyes are not tested and approved for any food (relevant) compliance.

For the production of lacquers, the same range of dyes can be used but compared to the formulation for wood staining, for lacquers, an additional binder e.g. acrylate or nitro cellulose(NC) can become part of the formulation.

TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE

PHILOWHITE TM

PHILOWHITE TM OVERVIEW
PHILODEN Industries offers high-molecular brighteners, which find its use in Thermoplastics, Printing Inks, Lacquers and Man-made Fibers.

Optical brighteners typically work by reducing the yellowness and improving whiteness. Doing so, they help to enhance the overall brightness of any products.

PHILOWHITE OB and OB-1 are products, which, due to their excellent brightening ability, can be used in a wide range of polymers or any articles made of it.

These two grades based on similar chemistries and molecular weight, just differ by their melting point and weight-loss in TGA. Regarding coloristic and polymer suitability, they are exchangeable.

 
THE PRODUCT
The effect of an optical brightener is based on the fact, that the molecules are able to absorb energy transported by electromagnetic waves in the UV-range. Absorbing this energy (absorption maximum around 375nm) the molecules shift to an exciting state.

Falling back into the idle state, this previously absorbed energy is then released again in form of electromagnetic waves but this time, with wavelengths above the UV-range as blue light.
This mechanism of remitting blue light, increases the overall remission of the reflected spectrum with a typical peak in the lower end of the visible range. It adds a significant amount of blue light to the reflection spectrum which causes the desired clean appearance which is often called ‘whiter-than-white’ by masking the yellowness.

Our PHILOWHITE is an indispensable additive for a variety of applications. Both grades offer particular value when recycled thermoplastic polymers are processed.

TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE
Optical Brighteners show the desired effect as long as UV-light is present which delivers the energy needed for the method of action. Without UV-Radiation, the mechanism will not work.
Besides the intensity of the UV-radiation, there are three other factors which influence the efficiency of an optical brightener -. the initial color of the polymer (uncolored or solution dyed) itself, the presence of any matting agents and finally the loading of OB.

In determining the optimum concentration of OB. the effect of any other UV-absorbing component of the final formulation in the specific plastic material has to be considered.

In combinations with matting agents like TiO2 or BaSO4, brilliant white shades can be achieved, but such combinations require higher levels of optical brighteners.
On the contrary, the addition of UV-Absorbers can significantly reduce or even nullify the desired effect.
Optical brighteners are suitable for a wide selection of polymers; not just EPL’s but also for polyolefin.

Typical concentrations for optical brightener can range from as low as 5ppm up to about 1000ppm depending on polymer used, its application and the targeted effect.

In order to develop the desired effect, OB’s have to be dissolved in the polymer matrix. Since the addition levels are quite low and in order to make handling cleaner, they are normally prepared and added as master batch. This is usually achieved by extrusion under the processing conditions required for the carrier material.


PRODUCT USE
In plastics, today, the main application is related to production of polyesters/polyamides or for the recycling process of used Beverage Bottles or Carpets.

During polymerization, yellowness can be caused by too extensive heat stress or residue of catalysts. The same undesired effect can happen during multiple extrusion of polymer flakes during the recycling process. In both cases, the addition of OB can help to overtone the yellowing.
In color formulations, the addition of OB’s can boost the color and increase the overall visibility.
