SBI Inline Thickness Gauge KAPA

Inline thickness gauge KAPA from Austrian SBI was developed especially for film and sheet up to 2 mm thickness.
It utilizes a non contact capacitive sensor, scanning across the sheet over a measurement roller.
WIth the accuracy of 0,1 micron it is one of the most accurate, without nuclear or X-Ray beams.

It´s a non-contact, indirect thickness measurement principle.
The capacity between sensor and roller depends on dielectric of measured sheet and distance between sensor to roller. To eliminate the influence of distance-fluctuations between sensor to roller this distance is measured permanently with an eddy current sensor (located together with capacitive sensor in same casing). According to this measured distance the result of capacitive sensor is corrected.

SBI thickness gauge SHADOW

SBI's Inline thickness gauge SHADOW was developed for sheet extrusion (thermoforming sheet e.g.) up to 3,5 mm. Especially also for sheet which its properties must not be constant over the width (fillers, glass fibres, e.g.).
SHADOW utilises the principle of laser shadowing over a measurement roller, it is a direct measurement system (measures thickness like a micrometer screw gauge) not depending on sheet properties.

SBI's KAPA and SHADOW are designed also for retrofitting existing extrusion lines (the scanner can be installed vertical, horicontal or in every angle, even upside down would be possible).

SBI thickness gauges for extrusion coating and laminating

SBI's thickness gauges can be combined and software option detects the thickness of substrate in first scanner (for example PET sheet) and the thickness of total sheet in second scanner (for example: PET/PE). Sensor positions are matched, so the difference of both scanners shows thickness of coating material.
Of course both thicknesses can be controlled via automatic extrusion-dies.

SBI thickness gauge for barrier sheet

This non-contact inline thickness measuring device is for sheet extrusion lines up to a total thickness of 3 mm and a maximum width of 4 m. It is equipped with 2 different sensor systems. A capacitive sensor (KAPA) is measuring the total thickness and an infrared sensor (IR) determines the EVOH layer thickness.

SBI thickness gauge for thick, rigid sheet extrusion

Non-contact indirect inline thickness gauge for sheet extrusion.
On top and bottom side of the extruded sheet, two laser displacement sensors are scanning in a constant distance from the sheet. These laser-displacement sensors with high resolution and excellent linearity are designed for precise measurements in industrial applications.
Each sensor is guided on two linear bearings across the sheet and are driven by servomotors.
On the basis of a calibration curve of the measuring frame (detected on a calibration scan without sheet) the measured values of the laser sensors determine the thickness profile and it is displayed on the screen.

SBI system FRAD for automatic extrusion dies

FRAD stands for Full Range Automatic Die.
This system utilises also thermal bolts to optimise the thickness profile during sheet extrusion. Additional all bolts to together can be moved up and down via a sliding tapered shaft, which is in the back of all bolts. The whole gap of the extrusion die can be altered by moving the shaft. The position of the shaft is controlled by an SBI thickness gauge.

The gap opening of the extrusion die equipped with an SBI FRAD system can be opened and closed without an standstill of the extrusion line. This can used for quick production changes as well as to minimize the shrinkage of the extruded sheet.
