Anti-block additives, such as the Crodamide range, reduce blocking at the surface of polymer films and other plastic articles to allow easier processing and handling. Blocking is related to slip, however, slip involves the sliding of two surfaces over each other, blocking is the adhesion of those surfaces. Our anti-blocking additives reduce surface friction allowing easier separation of polymer surfaces. This can give an advantage in end-use applications such as opening plastic bags.
Crodamide anti-blocking additives
Traditionally inorganic anti-blocks such as silica are added to polymer films to reduce blocking and aid separation. However, these types of additives can cause a reduction of clarity in transparent films. Our anti-blocking additives work best in combination with low levels of inorganic anti-block, which results in improved clarity.

Key Benefits
High film clarity
Low use levels
Slipping or non-slipping solutions
Synergy with inorganic anti-block additives

Anti-fogging additives allow water to spread into a continuous and uniform transparent layer on the surface of films. This results in improved light transmission and transparency which has benefits in both agricultural and food packaging applications.
How do anti-fogging additives work?
Fogging is a term used to describe the formation of small water droplets on the surface of transparent film. Fogging most commonly occurs when there is a temperature differential between the inside and outside of an enclosed atmosphere. Croda’s anti-fogging additives reduce surface tension which results in a thin and continuous layer of water of the surface.

Anti-scratch additives are proving ever-more popular due to trends to lightweight with plastic and the need to preserve the look and feel of that plastic, particularly in the automotive industry. The car manufacturers challenge is to increase the lifetime of the plastic part and using scratch resistant materials is one way to achieve this.
Our range of anti-scratch additives is proven to reduce scratch visibility and whitening while maintaining high stability and low visible bloom over time and after exposure to heat and UV light.

They migrate to the surface by controlled migration through the polymer and work by reducing friction at the surface.

Key benefits:
Reduced scratch width
Reduced scratch whitening
Improved scratch smoothness
Low visible bloom
Increased oxidative stability
Low odour
Improved mold release

Composite Lubrication

Lubricant additives are using the production of wood plastic composites and other natural fibre composite materials to improve processing and increase output. The extrusion of wood and other natural fibre composite materials can be slow and energy consuming due to the dry nature of the material. This can lead to inefficient processes, a waste of energy and increased wear on machinery.
The use of lubricant additives can improve flow during extrusion and processing to improve output rates with minimal impact on mechanical properties and interactions with coupling agents.

These additives can be incorporated directly into composite materials during extrusion, allowing the following benefits to be seen:

Increased throughput
Improved flow
Superior dispersion
Reduced processing temperatures & pressures
Reduced wear on processing equipment
Enhanced mold release
Optimised mechanical properties
Superior surface finish
Reduced water absorption

Mold Release

Plastics naturally exhibit high friction, which can cause a number of issues during molding and end-use, such as high processing temperatures, machine wear, scratching and poor surface finish. Mold release additives are designed to improve your injection molding process by reducing friction, allowing more efficient processing and improving part quality time after time.
Our IncroMold range of mold release additives can be added directly into the polymer melt or via a masterbatch at around 0.5% to give a number of benefits in processing and finished parts.

Key Benefits

Consistent mold release
Reduced cycle times
Continuous running
Scratch and scuff resistance
Improved flow and dispersion of filled polymers
Improved surface finish
Fewer rejects and waste
Reduced machine wear and cleaning
Improved pigment dispersion.

Plasticisation additives include both monomeric and polymeric plasticisers that work to increase the plasticity or fluidity of a polymer. The product range offers many benefits in specialty applications from low temperature environments to food contact.

Monomeric Plasticisers
Monomeric plasticisers due to their small size, offer the benefits of increased physical and mechanical properties through rapid absorption and adsorption to the polymer surface

Key benefits:
Low temperature flexibility
Low viscosity
Phthalate free

Polymeric Plasticisers
Polymeric plasticisers offer superior resistance to volatility, migration and weathering over time which is ideal for applications where long term stability is needed.

Key benefits:
Low extractability (water, oil and detergent)
Low volatility
Low migration

Slip Additives

Slip additives offer a cost-effective solution to the problem of friction in polymers. Requiring only very low addition levels, typically 1000 ppm, slip additives reduce friction and allow ease of polymer handling and processing. The use of slip additives in plastics is a practical requirement for both the manufacturer and end-product consumer. High friction can result in difficulties with winding of film rolls, bag production and packaging operations.

UV Protection

Our UV protection additives are based on the unique patented technology of ultra-fine metal oxides, providing greater dispersion and clarity than ever before. Unlike organic UV absorbers, the easy-to-use stable dispersions deliver low migration and long-term UV protection.

Solasorb UV absorbers are aimed at protecting packaging contents or other media vulnerable to the effects of UV degradation. They can reduce colour change in cosmetic and personal care products or automotive parts. Inks which are protected by films containing Solasorb and can show improved resistance to fading.

Key Benefits
Superior UV absorption and significantly improved transparency compared to metal oxide powders
Reduced re-agglomeration due to stable optimised dispersion
UV absorption in the same order as organic UV absorbers
Permanent, non-migratory and non-degradable
Proven results in polyolefins and PVC

Torque Release

Torque release additives are needed in applications where bottle caps and closures are required to be tightly applied while still allowing for easy removal in end-use. This is vital for beverages containing pressurised carbonated drinks and syrup like liquids.
The Incroslip range not only offers processor and end-use flexibility, performance and better quality plastics as expected, they also provide exceptional stability with reduced odour and colour degradation.

Key Benefits
High slip performance with improved stability
High temperature performance
Low taste, low odour

Anti-static Additives

Why is Static Build-up a Problem in Plastics?
Most plastic materials are electrical insulators and have the ability to support high static build up. Static is produced by charge separation caused by the movement of one material over another. Static build up can result in issues including:

•Increased handling and contamination issues during transport, storage and packing
•Dust attraction affecting both appearance and performance of plastic products
•Risk of electrostatic discharge that will damage electronic components
•Risk of electrical discharge causing shocks to employees and even fire and explosion
How Can Anti-static Additives Help in Plastics?
Anti-static additives are added to plastics to reduce or eliminate a static build up. Anti-static additives work by lowering the resistivity of a material so that charges are mobile and therefore will not cause static issues such as dust attraction or electrostatic discharge (ESD).
