g/m control on blown-film lines

Blown-film lines are almost always equipped with gravimetric systems in order to control the forming of the layers non-destructively and to use material sparingly.

Bolder automation offers weigh hoppers and gravimetric dosing stations, which are integrated into the respective plant technology via a Siemens PLC. This concept is suitable for original equipment as well as for retrofitting or revision. For new plants, networking via Profinet simplifies the connection to an existing machine control system.

A g/m-control application is  presented in a realistic simulation and can be operated manually.

Universal gravimetric batch blender control based on S7

From Bolder automation a Simatic S7-1500 is designed for the process control of about all gravimetric batch blenders in the market. The PLC can be offered as a package for OEMs or as a complete solution together with Gravimix blenders from Ferlin.

The Siemens PLC in combination with an excellent software application offers a lot of advantages against a discrete solution. For example:

Mixmaster - Dispensing with high precision and speed

In the compounding or commissioning of raw materials, batches are metered out individually or as a mixture of different components. The desired weight of a component must be maintained very precisely. A good accuracy and a short dosing time usually stand against each other. However, a good compromise requires careful setup of the system and the control parameters. Usually the mass flow is discharged one after the other in rough, fine and pulsating form. Amplitudes and switching thresholds must be set accordingly.

Bolder automation, on the other hand, controls the conveyor, e.g. as shown in the picture in the form of a vibrating feeder, analogously via weight control. The controller automatically adapts to the conditions of the filling station and doses with high accuracy in the shortest possible time. The adaptive control thus also reacts to fluctuations in the material or the conveying properties.

The control based on Siemens S7-1500 can be configured for different scales, conveyors and processes. Platform scales based on DMS or scales from manufacturers such as Sartorius or Mettler, which transmit the weight via serial interfaces, can be used. All types of conveyors that can be controlled analogously are suitable for dosing. Depending on the application, the decreasing weight (loss-in-weight) of the conveying station or the increasing weight (gain-in-weight) of the discharged material can be evaluated using a separate scale.

Blend controller CDS-2030 for series COLORTRONIC CDE / CDK

Bolder automation GmbH offers a new dosing control for the volumetric dosing units of the COLORTRONIC CDE / CDK series. The CDS-2030 is compatible in function and operation with the previous CDS controller. The Simatic S7-1200 with a 7" color touch panel is new and meets today's requirements. The user interface appears clearer and is therefore more intuitive to operate. During operation, only one recipe has to be selected and started. In setup mode, all system variants are adapted, the individual components calibrated and all actuators and sensors checked for function. For the connection of all aggregates a new KV-Box is offered, which has an additional emergency stop switch in order to achieve more safety at the dosing station.

The PLC control offers the advantage that it can also be adapted to chamber feeders or disc feeders from other manufacturers.

Co-extrusion control on Siemens S7-1500 with gravimetric blending and material conveying

An extrusion line not only consists of extruder and haul-off, but also of a multitude of other components such as material conveying, drying, gravimetric dosing and downstream units. As a rule, each processing unit has its own control system, which is maintained by different suppliers and whose spare parts have to be stored individually.

Bolder automation offers to automate the entire plant on the basis of a Siemens PLC and thus concentrate maintenance on one system technology. The storage of spare parts is thus reduced to a minimum, as the assemblies are standardized.

This concept can only be implemented if the individual process components are also prepared for the PLC. This is achieved via software modules such as line control, temperature control, co-extrusion, gravimetric dosing, batch dosing or material conveying. Bolder automation has these modules at its disposal, which fit or can be configured to plant components from different manufacturers. In any case, customer-specific functions can be added by program.

Thanks to its networking via Profinet, this concept is also suitable for coupling to an existing machine controller whose functionality is to be expanded.

Through networking, production settings from MES/ERP can be transferred to all plant components and quality data can be recorded across the board. These communication channels are also available via remote control for external maintenance and service.
