CARBISO™ M - Carbon fibre nonwoven mats

CARBISO™ M is a range of nonwoven mats produced from 100% recycled staple carbon fibre that provides both cost and environmental benefits in composite processes. CARBISO™ M nonwoven mats are ideally suited for closed mould processes and can also be used for the manufacture of intermediate products such as prepregs and sheet moulding compounds.

CARBISO™ M nonwoven mats can be used with most thermoset and thermoplastic matrix systems.

CARBISO™ C -Chopped carbon fibre

CARBISO™ C chopped tow is a standard, chopped carbon fibre product available in different lengths. It can be used for various applications such as nonwoven production using wet and dry fibre laying processes, compounding and direct injection moulding. The slightly sized fibres are compatible with most thermoset and thermoplastic matrices.

ELG Carbon Fibre operates the world’s first and largest carbon fibre recovery plant in Coseley, West Midlands, in the UK.  Whilst the company continues to optimise the patented carbon fibre reclaiming process, the primary focus of the company is to develop and industrialise the conversion technologies to manufacture recycled carbon fibre products that can be reintroduced to the composites and compounding industries.

All of ELG Carbon Fibre’s products are available with consistent quality in large volumes to suit the needs of major industrial projects.

Carbon Fibre Reclaiming:
  • Sorting and preparation of manufacturing and end-of-life waste containing carbon fibre. Viable waste streams include uncured prepreg, cured laminate, dry carbon fibre waste and end-of-life products containing high proportions of carbon fibre.
  • Shredding of laminates and prepreg materials to enable efficient and consistent processing.
  • Fibre recovery via a modified pyrolysis process.
Carbon Fibre Conversion:
Following the recovery of the carbon fibres from the various waste formats, ELG Carbon Fibre produces four main types of converted products:

  • Milled fibres are produced in several variants suitable for epoxy coatings, thermoplastic injection moulding and compounding applications.
  • Non-woven mat production outputs a range of carbon fibre and hybrid non-woven products in widths up to 2.7m. These products are ideally suited to closed mould processes or the production of intermediate products such as prepreg or SMC materials.
  • Pellets of recycled carbon fibre are ideally used for reinforcing thermoset and thermoplastic compounds.
  • Chopped carbon fibres are used to make thermoset and thermoplastic moulding compounds.
