Twin Screw Extruders

ICMA manufacturing range is inclusive of the standard twin-screw corotating extruders (V class) and the high-torque version (HT and HP class) and to covers a very wide range of plastic compounded products, ranging from techno-polymers to bio-polymers.

The extruders, entirely designed and manufactured by ICMA, are supplied with modular structure gear-boxes adaptable to the working conditions of the various versions (low-speed, high-speed, high-torque and high-volume).

Plastic Recycling Machines & Plants

The co-rotating technology delivered by ICMA is appropriate when:

— There is a need to process materials that are hardly recyclable with traditional technologies
— You want to create a material with higher specification to replace virgin materials in technical applications
— You need a very high production capacity. In these cases, it becomes more and more frequently the case of companies normally using single-screw extruders for the recycling of materials from post-consumer, that when it becomes necessary to expand their business, they choose to almost double their production capacity by replacing the existing single-screw extruders with the same number of twin-screw co-rotating ones.

Another advantage, not negligible considering the trend of the energy costs, is represented by the very high energy efficiency that the co-rotating technology guarantees.

Notwithstanding all these assessments, is still difficult to "sell" these benefits when you have to extrude a seemingly simple product: However it should be considered that only the co-rotating technology has the unique opportunity to engineering the recycled materials by adding fillers or reinforcements thus giving a much larger and profitable opportunity to the market.

ICMA develops a turn-key direct extrusion line for pharma application

Icma San Giorgio SPA (Milan, Italy) has delivered in April a complete extrusion system to a major European pharma group. The new line extrudes several types of TPE foil for pharma applications. Gravimetric dosing units, a high-efficient co-rotating extruder ICMA MCM 60 and downstream equipment of a three-roll calender and fully automated winding unit make the line.
ICMA’s turn-key system encompasses complete project engineering with several customized features very tied to customer’s requirements, including solutions for assuring maximum cleaning of the entire process line commanded by critical pharma applications.
The line also incorporates several high tech digital solutions and sensor devices applied to key parts such as the calendaring movements and thickness control, to grant maximum accuracy during extrusion and the highest standard of safety for the operators.
“This is an excellent example of ICMA’s ability to tackle turn-key project from idea to factory start-up where a high level of customized engineering and industrial reliable execution are key factors to succeed. Icma’s capability to combine customization and maximum performance is unique in our industry” said Giorgio Colombo, Managing Director of Icma San Giorgio.
The line was erected and tested at ICMA’s premises prior to installation at the customer’s site.
