Leak detection of micro pinholes | LeakTEC

LeakTEC is a powerful electronic tool for non-destructive leak detection of non-conductive single layer materials.

The LeakTEC measures a leak between a high-voltage electrode (DC) and counter electrode which can either be grounded or running opposed polarity. The LeakTEC ensures full process control and traceability.

It is typical in field applications to surface test moulded and welded joints in medical devices like medical tubes, containers, pipettes, cannulas and extruded film for medical bags etc.

This fully automatic test is capable of detecting pin holes even smaller than 3 microns by introducing an electrical potential between a detecting electrode and an electrical ground, (i.e. metal jig or mandrel holding the part) while the plastic part itself acts as the insulator.

In the event of detecting a crack or pin hole in the plastic material, an electrical contact is established between electrode and ground.

This pass/fail contact is processed via the integral generator module interfaced with the main machine control. The machine control can either enable a downstream ‘part-reject’ function or track trends in the manufacturing process, which can be fed back for early process adjustment or maintenance. Counter electrodes measurement is to ensure that all electrodes are fully working. Each counter electrode will then give out individual signal to be processed by the machine PLC unit.

To limit the high-voltage and minimize generation of static electricity Tantec offers its dual polarity system (patented).

Use Tantec Plasma Treatment products prior to any coating, printing or adhesion

On an industrial level, plasma treatments are used for treating surfaces of various materials prior to any coating, printing or adhesion. Therefore, it can also be referred to as a kind of pretreatment of surfaces. Plasma treatment removes any foreign contaminants present on the surface of a material making it suitable for further processing. Materials like plastics are prone to lose any type of printing or coating done on their surfaces because of their glossy texture, unless treated. Plastics are made up of polypropylene and are homopolar which means that they do not bond that easily.

Applying plasma treatment on such plastic surfaces can result in an effective pretreatment of surface activation before any gluing, printing or lacquering can take place. Similarly, materials like ceramics and glass can also be treated with plasma. Usually, industrial oxygen is used in plasma treatment as a process gas, hence the title: oxygen plasma. However, atmospheric air is also referred to as atmospheric plasma. Depending on the type of material that is to be treated with plasma, effects can remain prominent for just a few minutes or even months.

Corona Treatment | Optimize adhesion properties

Corona treatment is a surface modification technique that uses a corona discharge to impart changes in the properties of a surface. Treating the surface a material/an object with Corona Treatment will ensure bonding with printing inks, coatings, and adhesives.

The purpose of corona treatment is to optimise the adhesion properties on polymer-based materials. The low surface energy of polymer-based substrates often leads to poor adhesion of inks, glues and coatings which by nature present significantly high surface energies. Corona treatment is a widely used surface treatment method in the plastic film, extrusion, automotive and medical industries.

To obtain optimum adhesion, it is crucial that the surface energy of the substrate is equal or higher than the surface energy of the material to be applied to the polymer.
