Bayer launches Insqin solution for waterborne PU-coated fabrics

With Insqin the company offers brand owners in the footwear and apparel sector an integrated package of pure waterborne PU technology, material co-development, and a certified manufacturer partner programme for PU coated fabrics, fostering a new way of value chain collaboration. By working directly with brand owners and supporting their sourcing and manufacturing partners, Bayer says it will be addressing a wide array of brand owners' concerns, including product design, manufacturing innovation and environmental performance. According to the company, Insqin presents a wide range of possibilities to enhance and transform fabrics which meet the design requirements for the fashion industry and the performance requirements of the sports world, in applications as diverse as PU leather, functional fabrics or printing. Insqin enables the manufacture of all kinds of coated fabric to be carried out without solvent. The waterborne PU technology not only enables PU leather to be manufactured without solvent, it also reduces water consumption by up to 95 % and energy consumption by up to 50 % in the coating process, says the company. An interview with Nicholas Smith, Global Head of Textile Coating at Bayer MaterialScience, with a focus on Insqin will be published in PU Magazine International 5|2014 in October.
