) will proceed with the second phase of its capacity expansion for the PU precursor methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) at its production site in Geismar, Louisiana / USA see Plasteurope.com of 18.11.2016
The German company is to invest an additional USD 87m (EUR 77m) to continue the expansion, which is considered a central aspect of the Geismar chemical complex. Construction of phase two is expected to start by late 2019, with completion in 2021. The first phase of the expansion, which has been running since mid-2018 and is around USD 150m, is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2020.
BASF is planning to double its capacity for MDI production in Geismar from the current capacity of 300,000 t/y to 600,000 t/y.
