PLASTICS RECYCLING SHOW EUROPE: AI innovation showcased in Amsterdam / Conference programme covers current and future recycling challenges / PIE joins trade fair with own stand

The Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE; www.prseventeurope.com) is set to return to Amsterdams RAI exhibition and convention centre from 1-2 April 2025. Organised by industry association Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE, Brussels, www.plasticsrecyclers.eu) and Crain Communications, the event is expected to highlight, among other things, the pivotal role of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionising the circular economy of plastics.
According to the organisers, this years exhibition will feature a dedicated AI Innovation Hub that will guide visitors through AIs uses across various stages of recycling, from feedstock and design to collection, processing, and material sourcing. The event is also set to see the launch of the Recycling Data Game (RDG), an interactive tool designed to train AI algorithms for sorting plastics.
Among the 500 exhibitors are numerous companies at the forefront of AI-driven technologies such as Greyparrot, Tomra, Pellenc ST, WeSort.AI, and Sesotec.

As an event highlight, visitors can expect to look forward to the Swarm Sorting Demonstration a collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology, the National Test Centre Circular Plastics (Heerenveen, Netherlands), and Antfarm. In this demonstration, four autonomous robots are set to work together to sort plastics in a 5 m x 5 m area, offering a glimpse into the future of waste sorting.
Additionally, the RDG, developed as part of the EU-funded RECLAIM project, is set to engage attendees in a simulation of the plastics sorting process, aimed at both educating the public and advancing AI capabilities for better material recovery.

PRSE has published its full programme for the 2025 conference taking place in halls 1 and 5. It has organised more than 60 speakers to address the key issues of the European plastics recycling sector, including political and industry representatives from the European Commission, the Dutch government, TotalEnergies, Ikea, ING, Aldi, and Procter & Gamble.
Topics include overcoming current challenges, unlocking the potential of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) for the recycling industry, and balancing mechanical and chemical recycling, along with an in-depth look at future challenges and trends.
Interactive panel discussions are set to cover strategies to scale up collection and sorting, recycled content traceability, and innovations in reclaim technologies, with focus sessions dedicated to specific materials such as PET, polyolefins, and ELV & WEEE.
