Full Professor Dr.-Ing. Christian Bonten did his academic studies from 1989until 1993 in mechanical engineering at the University of Duisburg and in plastics processing at RWTH Aachen University. While being a project engineer with IKM GmbH he in 1998 had the opportunity to do a PhD thesis with Prof. Schmachtenberg, Plastics Technology Chair at the University of Essen. During a several years postdoctoral phase he acted as Chief Engineer in Essen and at the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) in Aachen.
Professional career He joined the Engineering Plastics Division of BASF in 2002. After having started with a technical career he in 2005 took over responsibility for the global Terlux und Luran HH businesses with a yearly turnover of appr. 100 million Euro. During this period he became founder of BASF’s designfabrik, an application technology group for industry designers, and headed the healthcare & diagnostics team of BASF’s plastics division. In 2008 he joined bioplastics manufacturer FKuR Kunststoff GmbH as a general manager and CTO. In 2010 he was appointed Full Professor by the University of Stuttgart where he took over the Chair of Plastics Engineering and the Directorship of the Institute of Plastics Engineering (IKT). IKT is active in the fields of plastic materials engineering, plastics processing, and product development.
