Prof. Schlarb studied mechanical engineering at TU Kaiserslautern specializing in production engineering and business organization. He finalized his studies with a diploma degree in 1984. He then became Scientific Associate with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. e. h. Gottfried Ehrenstein at the University of Kassel, where he graduated in 1989 in plastics processing. In 1988 and 1989 he acted as Chief Engineer at the Institute of Materials Engineering at the University of Kassel.
After this Prof. Schlarb was busy in varying technical and management positions in the industry for about 13 years inter alia as Material Scientist and Project Manager with BASF’s Corporate Plastics Research Group and finally as Vice President and Head of Marketing, Research and Development with B. Braun Medical AG, Sempach (CH), an affiliate of B. Braun Melsungen AG.
In 2002 Prof. Schlarb accepted a full professorship for composite materials at the Technology Institute of Kaiserslautern. Until 2008 he furthermore headed the Institute of Composite Materials GmbH, Kaiserslautern.
Prof. Schlarb is a member of the Scientific Alliance of Plastics Technology (WAK) (www.wak-kunststofftechnik.de) and Chairman of SAMPE Deutschland e.V. (www.sampe.de).
