In January, higher feedstocks deepened standard thermoplastics producers´ resolve to recover margins, and buyers paid the price, the newsletter Plastics Information Europe (PIE, Bad Homburg / Germany; www.pieweb.com) says in its latest report. Styrenics made great strides, with PS adding EUR 190/t to exceed the EUR 172/t rise in styrene monomer.
EPS gained EUR 130/t, but failed to recoup the entire feedstock rise. PE, up EUR 95/t, finished well ahead of the EUR 30/t increase for C2. PP with a more moderate EUR 60/t, still topped the EUR 40/t rise in C3, while PVC, dogged by slack demand, gained only EUR 10/t.
