SPI to launch new 3D printing event

SPI is launching a new annual event focused on 3D printing, with the inaugural edition to coincide with NPE2015 (March 23-27, 2015; Orlando). Gene Sanders, SPI's senior vice president of trade shows and conferences, said NPE3D will include exhibits and educational demonstrations of 3D printing, noting in a release that NPE provides the new event a built-in exhibitor base and an audience of more than 60,000 industry professionals, "many of whom have an intense need to know about this trailblazing technology," Sanders said.

3D printing, or additive manufacturing, has seen its activity levels spike as technology advances have lowered equipment costs and barrier to entry.

At NPE2012, SPI organized a "Mass Customization" pavilion that was to include digital ink jet printing and 3D printing, among other topics. Those specialty pavilions were part of what SPI called TechnologyCentral@NPE2012, which served as "anchors" for the South and North Buildings of the Orange County Convention Center, along with the International Plastics Design Competition.

Existing 3D printing events include, the 3D Printshow, Inside 3D Printing Conference & Expo, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's Rapid show, among others.
