More hospitals seek pigment-free plastics


Medline, the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of healthcare products, is expanding its plastics processing to meet demand for a new line of "green" products.

The Mundelein, Illinois, company estimates that about 8% of its customers are now buying pigment-free products that it manufactures. Products sold in their natural state include bedpans, wash basins, soap dishes, pitchers, carafes, and trays.

"Our pigment-free products support greener manufacturing because they eliminate the need for potentially harmful chemicals during the manufacturing process," Francesca Olivier, Medline sustainability program manager, told Plastics Today."...
