Mobile medical device market will double this year


One of the hot new markets for plastics in medical applications will be mobile and wireless devices that provide ongoing remote monitoring of patient health.

The total value of the mobile medical application market is expected to double this year from the $720 million achieved last year, according to Adrienne Lovink, VP of consulting and business development at the Millenium Research Group (Toronto).

Use of mobile diagnosis and surveillance will grow as health providers become more comfortable with wireless technology; caregiver demands rise under the Affordable Care Act of 2010; and the shortage of physicians and nurses becomes more acute.
