Independently compounded thermoplastics: US market at 3.4 bn t in 2013

After declining by 1.1% from 2003-2008, US demand for independently compounded thermoplastics is set to reach 3.4m t, at a value of USD 6 bn, in 2013, a new study by US market research company Freedonia (Cleveland, Ohio; www.freedoniagroup.com) predicts. If proven correct, this means the market will have increased by 200,000 t over its 2003 volume of 3.2m t. In 2008, the independently compounded thermoplastics market dropped to 3m t, reflecting the global downturn.

The US market researchers ascribe this growth to the need for higher performance compounds, coupled with independent compounders' ability to rapidly develop produce and meet delivery deadlines.
