IRAN: West Ethylene Pipeline to be launched to meet PC feedstock requirements

The entire pipeline runs from Assalouyeh in south Iran to West Azerbaijan Province in northwest Iran. Kavian Petrochemical will convert ethane from South Pars to ethylene to feed the pipeline.

The West Ethylene pipeline will supply feedstock to the first phase of Ilam Petrochemical's complex in western Iran.

The Ilam complex, which recently began operations, is expected to produce 460,000 t/y of ethylene and 120,000 t/y of propylene. Cost of the project was not disclosed.

Some 14 petrochemical plants and 11 provinces are located along the pipeline, including Lorestan, Mahhabad and Kurdestan Petrochemical, and will receive ethylene from the pipeline.

Tabriz Petrochemical will receive 150,000 t/y of ethylene. Some plants are operational, while the others are still being built, Fars noted.
