Feiplastic 2013: By any other name, Brazilian show still growing


São Paulo—Brasilplast became Feiplastic last year as the biennial Saõ Paulo show sought to better reflect its increasingly international nature, both in terms of exhibitors and attendees, and its roots as a longstanding Brazilian event with a growing global flavor were captured perfectly in the opening ceremony.

There, a dais of Brazilian plastics dignitaries, who did not start the proceedings until the Brazilian national anthem was sung, sat directly adjacent to the Turkish pavilion, juxtaposing a truly global event that maintains deep Brazilian roots.

"Fei" is short for "feira"—fair in Portuguese—replacing the country specific Brasil, but while the name was new, the show's growth and internationalization continue unabated. Compared to the 2011 event, the show now has exhibitors from 38 countries, up from 36 in 2011. In total, the event will cover 85,000 sq m (about 279,000 sq ft) and have 1400 exhibitors, with forecasts of 70,000 visitors over its five days....
