Bioriented polypropylene films processor Treofan Group, headquartered in Germany, has signed a marketing partnership agreement with fellow flexible plastics packaging converter Shiner International Inc. of Haikou, China, and flexible packaging distributor Alliance Packaging (Hong Kong). Under the terms of the agreement, Treofan will have exclusive responsibility for marketing and sales of coated films and tobacco films for Shiner in Europe and the Americas (Canada excluded); Shiner will gain access to Treofan's processing technologies for tobacco films and packaging for sale in China; and Alliance will have the primary responsibility for sales and marketing for all packaging films from Treofan and Shiner in the Asia-Pacific market.
Earlier thismonth Treofan sold its BOPP films facility in Belgium to allow the processor to focus on a smaller range of specialty BOPP films. Buying it was Luxemburg-based Crystal Amaranth S.a.r.l., which is run by former by ExxonMobil Chemical Films Europe executives Gabriel Catania, and Rens Korevaar. Commenting on the sale of that facility, Carlo Ranucci, CEO of the Treofan Group, explained, "Our strategy is to focus on a smaller range of specialty BOPP films, especially in the areas of tobacco, electronics and IML labels." Treofan (Raunheim, Germany) early this year sold its site in Lamezia, Italy, where cast PP film was extruded. In Oct. 2009 the management of Treofan South Africa acquired the business in that country.
