Complete system solutions driving KraussMaffei growth

Munich, June 8, 2010 – In the current business year (year ending September 30), KraussMaffei AG is reporting sales (about 750 million euros) on a par with the prior year, together with a substantial rise in orders (about 800 million euros). Based on this order surge, the market leader in plastics and rubber processing machinery is expecting strong sales growth in the next business year. The company’s proven competence in complete, often multitechnology, processing solutions matches changing market requirements, so that it is taking market share worldwide from suppliers focused on standard machines.

“Since the spring we’ve seen orders soar by around 25% and this will result in significant sales growth in the 2010/2011 business year,” reported Dr. Dietmar Straub, CEO of KraussMaffei AG at a press conference in Zürich. “We’ve weathered the severe economic crisis through our own efforts, and we’re facing the future in a stronger position than many of our competitors.” The company is profiting from changes in customers’ approach to capital spending. “With function-integrated solutions and other innovative processing solutions, we’ve been able to offer our customers the prospect of higher productivity, greater energy efficiency and the ability to produce highly innovative components,” Dr. Dietmar Straub explained. In all sectors, demand for standard machines purely to increase production volumes has shrunk.

KraussMaffei is currently booking its highest growth rates in emerging markets. In China, in the face of powerful competition from Asian suppliers, the company more than doubled orders in the first seven months of the business year. This brings the share of Asian orders up to around 20% of the total. Together with Brazil and Eastern Europe, the new growth markets now account for around 40% of KraussMaffei sales. In the USA too, the company, as the only supplier of machinery and systems for injection molding, extrusion and reaction molding, is profiting from the recovering economy. The company has responded to shifting market weightings with a balanced production strategy.

At the world’s biggest plastics fair, the K 2010 in Düsseldorf, Germany, KraussMaffei will be showcasing a wealth of innovations to boost energy efficiency, reduce costs and increase productivity. “We’re expecting the K 2010 to deliver new impulses for growth,” said the company CEO optimistically.
