The largest plastics trade show held this year turns 25, and the reach of the event increases both in size and scope. The 25th edition of Chinaplas will be held this year from May 17-20 in Asia's largest exhibition hall, the China Import & Export Fair Pazhou Complex in Guangzhou. Recalling the first edition of the event, Stanley Chu, chairman of Adsale, the company that organizes the show, recalls, "There were only several thousand square meters of exhibition space and a hundred of exhibitors, which were all overseas companies. There wasn't any China-made products and technology at the fairground in the first edition."
Things have changed dramatically. Foreign manufacturers still include Chinaplas on their small list of "must attend" shows, but now Chinese machine and materials manufacturers, plus processors, fill a number of halls and draw the attention of processors from around the world. The show has become a magnet for plastics processors from across Asia but also further afield; last year foreign visitors accounted for 18% of the 81,435 total visitors, and that in a year when an Icelandic volcano caused cancellation of all flights out of Europe during the week of the show....
