Another acquisition as suppliers get ready for printable electronics

The printable electronics industry is in its infancy but is expected to be worth tens of billions by the end of this decade, and plastics suppliers have been busily jockeying to acquire the technology needed to ensure their success in this rapidly expanding field.

Printable electronics are electronic components produced through the use of various printing methods, typically onto a plastic substrate. It is expected that their lightweight and portability will make them a consumer favorite, and the ability to print them using high-volume processes will help manufacturers to significantly reduce the cost of products such as thin-film transistors for liquid crystal displays (LCD TFTs) and solar cells.
