DataMatrix

2D DataMatrix Code is the most used type of two-dimensional barcodes for permanent direct part marking and Identification in industrial Productions
The perfect supplement to our marking systems.
Directly applied 2D codes are read out with the help of handheld scanners as well as via fixed camera systems.
Not only lasered but also needle-embossed and electrolytically generated DataMatrix codes are securely recognised, even in the most difficult industrial environments.

The information density per surface can be considerably increased in comparison to one-dimensional barcodes (1D code) with the two-dimensional DataMatrix Code (2D-Code).

Increasingly stricter legislation in the field of product liability have an increasing number of product recalls as a result (the so-called Traceability). Especially the automotive, aerospace and electronics industries are affected beside some other industries.

Your product components receive a clear identity by using Data Matrix markings. A significant increase in transparency within the production process is a result of that.

The information is encoded as a pattern of points in a square or rectangular area with the 2D code. The code contains redundant (multiply existing) data, so that, for example, the Reed-Solomon error correction (ECC 200) can be used to automatically correct up to 25% of the errors in the individual elements (e.g. if parts of the code overlap or were destroyed).

Electrolytic marking

Electrolytic marking is based on an electrochemical etching process where the image of a stencil is transferred to an electrically conductive product by the action of electrolyte (saline solution) and electricity.

Electrolytic marking with OSTLING Marking Devices.  The exact copy of a template is applied to an electrically conductive product, in which current and electrolyte react with each other.

Depending on the source material and the current flow, the results are black, white or deep markings – without corrosion or any other negative effects on the material. The Ostling Standard electrolytes are appropriate for most marking applications but we are also able to deliver many special electrolytes for custom applications – from our own production based in Germany. Where do we come from?
In the middle of the 18th century, steel experts of Walloon origin migrated from Belgium to northern Sweden. They were called Pierro. In the striving steel district of Sandviken they grew prosperous, purchased a manorial estate and changed their name: OSTLING.

Their interest in technology remained unchanged. They developed machines to rationally harvest turf, reshape steel or produce nails, for example.

This innovative thinking and the motivation of his ancestors shaped the company founder, Rolf Östling. He was born in the port city of Gävle in Sweden. Following his school leaving examinations and his industrial engineering studies, he had the idea of developing a marking system. In a tiny, dark basement, he began in 1968 to build a machine that was purchased by the Sandvik Company, the world’s largest carbide producer.

Innovations such as corrosion-free electrolytes and template material with very long durability promoted further expansion.
In 1978, he moved to Germany (Essen) and founded the company OSTLING Vertriebs GmbH. In 1979, the company headquarters was relocated to Solingen, where the cutlery industry has an international reputation and market potential is conglomerated.
