Product information

The main topics of our research are oriented on general social needs, which are formulated among others in the high tech strategy of the German government and in the European program Horizon 2020.

Mobility
Textile preforms enable the design of innovative lightweight constructions by customized composite materials. ITA’s textile semi-finished products also provide many solutions for the automotive interior, from ambient lightning to sensor technology and adaptive structures.

Information and communication
Smart Textiles as cross-sectional technology allow the integration of sensors, actuating elements and physical functions in fibre based components: for the illumination, air-conditioning or adaption: conductive textiles become functional components.

Health
Innovative fibres and scaffolds, as well as fibre based implants  are the basis for patient-individual implants. ITA’s smart medical devices allow an individual support of patients and staff in challenging care and labour situations.

Building and Home textiles
A reduction of CO2-emissions during concrete production and completely new scopes of design are realised with textile concrete building components. Besides, they allow the realisation of translucent concrete elements and an integrated energy generation in facade systems.

Efficiency of energy and resources
The reduction of the energy consumption in manufacturing processes is in ITA’s research focus as well as the development of high-performance materials that make energy conversion more efficient. An energy-efficient manufacturing of carbon fibres is the prerequisite for a widespread use of composites in automotive applications. The exploration and utilisation of renewable raw material, e.g. of natural fibres and biopolymers is a further research focus.

About us

Company details

About us
The ITA-Group is a recognised provider for research, development and training. With more than 350 employees ITA covers fibre-based high-performance materials, textile semi-finished products and their manufacturing technologies.

Our main areas of research
The basis for our research areas such as mobility, building and home textiles, health, power supply, information and communication is our expertise in the field of material engineering and production.

Lifelong learning and job-related qualification are essential parts of our scientific activities and in technology transfer.

The Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University

The Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University is directly connected to the chair for textile engineering within the faculty of mechanical engineering and is headed by Prof. Thomas Gries.

Within the scope of a joint professorship “Biohybrids and Medical Textiles” Prof. Stefan Jockenhövel heads the department of Biohybrid and Medical Textiles.

The ITA Group

As our link between academic research and industry, the ITA Technologietransfer GmbH in Aachen under the management of Markus Beckmann is an established partner for industry-projects and technology transfer since 2002.

Our strategy
Essential elements of our strategy are our four “I’s”:

- International
- Industry-orientated
- Interdisciplinary
- Integrated.

The ITA-Group stands for integrated research and training focused on human beings and society needs. ITA develops textile-based solutions for current socials and technical challenges.
