The main topics of our research are oriented on general social needs, which are formulated among others in the high tech strategy of the German government and in the European program Horizon 2020.
Textile preforms enable the design of innovative lightweight constructions by customized composite materials. ITA’s textile semi-finished products also provide many solutions for the automotive interior, from ambient lightning to sensor technology and adaptive structures.
Information and communication
Smart Textiles as cross-sectional technology allow the integration of sensors, actuating elements and physical functions in fibre based components: for the illumination, air-conditioning or adaption: conductive textiles become functional components.
Innovative fibres and scaffolds, as well as fibre based implants are the basis for patient-individual implants. ITA’s smart medical devices allow an individual support of patients and staff in challenging care and labour situations.
Building and Home textiles
A reduction of CO2-emissions during concrete production and completely new scopes of design are realised with textile concrete building components. Besides, they allow the realisation of translucent concrete elements and an integrated energy generation in facade systems.
Efficiency of energy and resources
The reduction of the energy consumption in manufacturing processes is in ITA’s research focus as well as the development of high-performance materials that make energy conversion more efficient. An energy-efficient manufacturing of carbon fibres is the prerequisite for a widespread use of composites in automotive applications. The exploration and utilisation of renewable raw material, e.g. of natural fibres and biopolymers is a further research focus.
