Novitom uses a wide range of 2D, 3D and 4D advanced characterization techniques to reveal the internal microstructure of any material or finished products, including molecular organization or distribution of chemical elements.

Most of the techniques used by Novitom allows to achieve dynamic characterization, which means it is possible to visualize 2D or 3D changes in the internal structure of a sample in real time while it is subjected to thermal, mechanical, chemical or biological stress.

Novitom offers services around 3 major families of characterization techniques: 2D/3D morphological characterization, 2D, molecular structure and supra molecular organization, 2D/3D chemical characterization.

X-ray microtomography

X-ray microtomography is a powerful nondestructive technique for 3D imaging and inspection that finds important applications both for R&D applications and for on-line monitoring of production. Its big strength is it’s versatile application to all types of materials or parts.

X-ray synchrotron sources push up the limits of this technology by providing ultra high spatial resolution – up to 30-nm, unrivaled image quality using phase contrast, very high power of penetration even in dense materials and ultra-fast acquisition modes for real-time process monitoring.

X-ray micro-diffraction

X-ray diffraction (XRD) allows to study the atomic structure of any type of crystalline or semi-crystalline materials: minerals, metals, polymeric materials or biological sample.

By coupling XRD to x-ray microbeams from synchrotron sources, X-ray diffraction becomes X-ray microdiffraction and opens the way to 2D mapping 2D of molecular structure at the micron scale. The analysis can also be carried out while your sample is subjected to thermal, mechanical or humidity stress.

X-ray micro-diffraction

X-ray fluorescence microscopy allows for chemical compostion mapping of any type of sample. Similar in its principle to SEM-EDX technology, it is mich more sensitive with detection levels down to ppm or even ppb.

XANES and EXAFS spectroscopies are analysis techniques that require the brillance of synchrotron X-ray beams. They are able to unravel the local environment of given element, its oxidation state, the nature of its first neighbours, wheteher it is present as a major element or traces in the sample.

SEM-FEG Microscopy

Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is a powerful technique to observe the surface of samples with a ultra-high level of details, down to the nanometer scale. A SEM-FEG (Field Emission Gun) microscope can be operated at low voltage.

SEM-FEG is thus extremely well adpated to image most of the organic materials which usually have a low temperature of fusion.

Novitom is specialized in the caracterisation of nano-particles, organic coatings, and observation of hair or skin surface.
