TPEs for high-temperature applications in the automotive and industrial sectors
The THERMOLAST® V compounds have been specially developed for high-temperature applications and dynamic and static stress requirements of the car manufacturing and industrial sectors. Apart from good thermal stability, the material offers excellent hysteresis behaviour as well as outstanding compressive stress relaxation.
Apart from the "classic" THERMOLAST® V, we also offer materials with polyamide bonding in the compound series LTP/AD/PA. This compound series combines the characteristics of modified bonding and long-term performance in a single product with exceptional properties especially suitable for technical applications and the use in car production. Thanks to the unrivalled long-term sealing properties, customers can reduce assembly costs and produce captive seals moulded to polyamide for use at high ambient temperatures.

THERMOLAST® V compounds are based on cross-linked SEBS. The chemical cross-linking of the modified polystyrene end blocks results in a significantly higher stability of the PS blocks, which results in the desired characteristics of the material. Chemically cross-linked HSBC compounds are produced by means of dynamic vulcanisation in double screw extruders.

THERMOLAST® M Service Package of KRAIBURG TPE Our THERMOLAST® M Service Package, which is unique at the market, guarantees a maximum of quality, safety and reliability. -All medical compounds are tested according to ISO 10993-5 (Cytotoxicity) and listed as Drug Master File. Selected medical compounds are tested according to described medical basic approvals: USP Class VI (chapter 88), USP 661 (in vitro), ISO 10993-4 (Haemolysis, indirect in human blood), ISO 10993-10 (Intracutaneous Irritation) and ISO 10993-11 (Acute Systemic Toxicity). -No use of animal-based raw materials -Extractable studies for selected compounds, which have especially been developed for applications with contact to pharmaceuticals -100% safe formulation and procedure (adjustments only if the law changes) – At least 24 months lead time in case of a necessary alteration of the formulation or the procedure, combined with a delivery assurance -Optimal production standard at a company-owned medical aggregate

Our widely used THERMOLAST® K materials have been developed to meet current market demands. These serially produced compounds are based on hydrogenated styrene block copolymers and used in virtually all industries. They are readily available and tried and tested in many industry-specific applications. We offer for example special food-grade THERMOLAST® K - TPE, as well as materials that are engineered to meet the requirements of the automotive industry. THERMOLAST® K compounds can be processed in many different ways: injection molding, extrusion or blow molding.

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) combine the good processing properties of plastics with the elastomer properties that are so important for product developers and designers. Thermoplastic elastomers consist of thermoplastic end blocks and an elastic midblock. As regards their structure and behaviour, they belong to a material class that is positioned between plastics (thermoplastics) and rubber (elastomer) and have gradually been developed into a material class of their own.
They enhance products and enable processors to position their products ahead of those of their competitors. In addition, TPEs also fulfil technical functions that have up to now only been available with elastomers. The use of TPEs does not only offer a range of product advantages but also has significant commercial benefits for processors. Similar to thermoplastics, TPEs become plastic when heated and elastic when cooled down again. In elastomers, this behaviour is due to chemical cross-linking. In TPEs, it is the result of physical cross-linking, and any changes in behaviour caused by heating are reversible. When the material is cooled down, new cross-links are established, which bond the elastic blocks into rigid three-dimensional networks. This means that TPEs show elastic properties that are similar to those of elastomers, while allowing for repeat deformation and recovery as known from thermoplastics. The characteristic features of THERMOLAST® A compounds are improved UV resistance and excellent adhesion to PC, ABS and PC/ABS. In addition, the compounds offer great scratch resistance and enhanced haptics. This makes the product particularly suitable for automotive applications or the production of tool handles.

The compounds of this group consist of a polymer blend of pre-cross-linked acrylate copolymers and TPC. Depending on the desired hardness, the continuous phase is substituted. For soft materials, it consists of the copolymer. For hard versions, TPC is used. As the copolymer is pre-cross-linked, no further cross-linking occurs during the processing in the extruder.
