Center for Chemical Polymer Technology - CPT

Our mission
The Center for Chemical Polymer Technology (CPT) is a science-driven analytical research and service unit of DWI. In addition to analytical services, we offer custom synthesis and samples of special polymers and prepolymers as well as process developments based on the research activities of the institute. CPT facilities and expertise are available and directed towards internal use for the research activities of the institute as well as for customers from small and medium enterprises and other research institutions.
Our philosophy We offer problem-oriented consultancy and analytical characterization in the fields of polymer materials, chemical processes, membranes and biotechnology. We take the time to get to the bottom of your problem, and we understand that communication and time management are essential for you. We offer our services in a one-stop contact and work closely with you in order to solve your most demanding research challenges. Together we will find a successful and cost-effective way for you to bring your research to the next level.

Our expertise
CPT builds on DWI’s extensive experience gained over many years in the field of polymeric materials. CPT houses a wide variety of sophisticated instrumentation, which is operated by a multidisciplinary team of dedicated and experienced scientists. Beyond our in-house expertise DWI is part of the Aachen Polymer Chain—a close cooperation between natural scientists and engineers at RWTH Aachen University to cover the entire spectrum between fundamental and applied research. This synergy enables us to organize in a transdisciplinary way the best solution to your problem and to help to find the experts also for your most complex questions.

Polymer analytics
We provide polymer, particle, and surface analysis. Our comprehensive methods cover thermal analysis, spectroscopy, advanced chromatography, and microscopy. In addition, we offer characterization analysis of textiles and natural fibers as well as surfaces. For this purpose, we also apply our in-house developed and internationally recognized methods. Process technology We offer chemical engineering and processing of polymers, membranes, and (in)organic particles. We make use of the know-how and technical possibilities of our close partners, Aachener Verfahrenstechnik and the institutes of the Aachen Polymer Chain.

We have experience in designing new biotechnical processes as well as customizing existing ones. Using our state-of-the-art biotechnical facilities, we improve biocatalysts by directed evolution. Furthermore, we analyze enzyme-reaction kinetics, study the interaction between enzymes and reaction media, and examine the control of enzyme activity by interactive polymers. How we work You can partner with us in a number of ways depending on your individual requirements: via a collaborative research program, on a contract basis, or via a per-order fee.
