HOS-Technik

HOS-Technik produces high-temperature resins based on BMI and PBI, maleimide monomers, reactive diluents and microbeads (HOSBeads). The production range includes Bismaleimides (HOMIDES), Polybenzimidazole (HOZOLE) and microbeads (HOSBeads). HOZOLE and HOMIDE are used mainly for applications where high-temperature resistance is an important criterion.

The monomer HOMIDES can be used as cross-linking agents for rubber, in formulations for adhesives, as basic elements for the production of bismaleimide resins and for the preparation of formulations for the RTM and hot-melt technique. In combination with maleimide monomers the reactive diluents can be used for the manufacture of composites and laminates.

The high-temperature resins HOMIDE 250, 400, 405 and 802 are thermosetting reactive prepolymers. The main fields of application include the production of laminates, composites, moulded parts, special diamond and CBN wheels. A long-term temperature resistance after complete cure of 260-280°C (500-536°F) can be reached.

HOZOLE is a powdery high-performance polymer manufactured by HOS-Technik using a polybenzimidazole (PBI) base. Products made from HOZOLE are non-flammable and show excellent high-temperature stability up to 540°C (1004°F). HOZOLE is used to make fibres, component parts and films.

HOSBeads are spherical beads made of highly cross-linked methyl methacrylate which can be used in solvent-based and waterborne paints and coatings. To improve the structure, opacity and matting of your product HOSBeads can be blended with other fillers or matting-agents. HOSBeads improve the scratch and high polishing resistance of clear coatings.

Products made from HOZOLE are non-flammable and show excellent high-temperature stability up to 540°C (1004°F). HOZOLE is used to make fibres, component parts and films. At our production site in Austria we have installed a foil-casting-plant and are able to supply high-temperature thermoplastic films on basis HOZOLE with thicknesses of 25, 50 and 75 µm.

Bismuth catalyst

We are able to supply two catalysts on basis of bismuth: CB 17 and CB 28. These catalysts have been identified as rapid catalysts for polyurethanes. The difference between the catalysts CB 17 and CB 28 lies in the bismuth content. The bismuth content of bismuth-2-ethylhexanoate (CB 28) is 25-30 % and of bismuth neodecanoate (CB 17) 15-20 %. Both catalysts can be used in the same way. They can be used in combination with titanium or tin (organo metal) catalysts.

Contract Manufacture

To operate our equipment at full capacity, we offer our production facilities for contract manufacturing in the chemical industry.

We can offer our customers three modern vacuum drying plants with paddle-type dryers, each centred round a DRAIS-reactor (with capacities of 250, 5000 and 6000 litres respectively). Machine components coming into contact with the product are made of material no. 1.4571. The double shells of the two reactors can be heated with steam or hot water, and also cooled again with water from the cooling tower if necessary. All reactors are equipped with knife‑blade chopper mills for chopping and de-agglomerating. Both plants can be evacuated to 10 mbar using a two-stage vacuum pump stand. A process control system monitors the drying process. The material is emptied into Big-Bags or drums, however 20-50 kg bags could also be used.

For chemical contract synthesis our plant contains heated mixing tanks with a capacity of 0.5 – 10 m³. At the customer’s request we can perform solid-liquid separation using a pressure filter or a disc filter.

We are able to perform micro-fine grinding as well, using a modern turbo-mill. Cooling with nitrogen is possible during grinding if necessary.

Screening with a separator (fabricate SWECO, screen diameter 1200 mm) can be carried out upon request.

Research and development work, as well as quality control, are carried out in a well-equipped, modern laboratory. Our staff includes three highly-qualified polymer chemists, who also work very closely with various universities.

HOS-Technik GmbH was established in 1988 and is a privately owned chemicals factory located in the south of Austria. In the early days, HOS provided job-order production for large European chemicals companies. In 1998 a separate product line was introduced for polyimide production. We discovered that monomaleimides and bismaleimides are a high-price niche product that can also be sold worldwide by a small company. In order to promote sales of our products, HOS‑Technik participates regularly in international conferences and exhibitions on composite materials and plastics and has become a well-known name in the international composites and rubber sector. Worldwide sales and local consulting for our products are provided in some cases by independent agents, dealing either with a particular region or branch of industry, and in other cases, sales activity is conducted directly from Austria. We can now draw on many years of experience in development of high-performance polymers and also have ISO 9001:2008 certification. Our product spectrum spans a range from maleimides and its derivatives, to thermoset and thermoplastic resins for high-temperature applications, as well as metal-organic catalysts. To operate our equipment at full capacity, we still offer our production facilities for contract manufacturing in the chemical industry. Research and development work, as well as quality control, are carried out in a well-equipped, modern laboratory.
