Oerlikon Barmag, a division of Oerlikon Textile GmbH & Co. KG with sites in Remscheid, Chemnitz, Wuxi and Suzhou (the latter two both in the People’s Republic of China) was founded as Barmag AG in 1922. The company is the world market leader for spinning systems and equipment for manmade fibers such as polyester, nylon and polypropylene and for texturing machines and – with its Engineering division – provides service solutions along the entire textile value-added chain.
The current Oerlikon Barmag was established in Chemnitz by the Hamel brothers as far back as 1866. Today, 150 employees focus on the development and production of high-tech systems and components for filament manufacturing and processing at this site. The company’s core competencies are spinning systems and winders for special yarns such as mono-filaments, tapes, carbon fibers and textile glass fibers. But the area of carbon fiber winding also offers huge potential: due to their extreme tenacity and their low weight, carbon fibers are used in particular in the aerospace industry, the automobile sector and in sports article manufacture.
The primary markets for Oerlikon Barmag are Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Correspondingly, the company is present – with more than 1,500 employees throughout the world within the Oerlikon Textile network – with production, sales and service organizations in 120 different countries. At the Oerlikon Barmag R&D Centers in Remscheid and Chemnitz, highly-qualified engineers and technicians develop innovative and technologically-leading products for tomorrow’s world.
