About us

Company details

Sirplaste - Sociedade Industrial de Recuperados de Plástico, S.A. was founded in 1974 through the establishment of a limited liability company with € 2,992.79 in capital, divided among three partners.

In the beginning, the company recycled industrial plastic waste that contained a low degree of contamination.
The company raised its production flexibility in 1983 when it acquired its 1st washing line. This gave it the capacity to recycle highly contaminated plastic waste. This line was upgraded in 1985, giving greater production capacity.

Since then, the company has maintained steady growth, developing its production capacity through the acquisition and installation of increasingly more advanced equipment and technology. It has also been investing in expanding its roofed facilities during this period.

The company acquires plastic waste (LDPE, HDPE, PP) from Sociedade Ponto Verde (multi-municipal manager of the national recycling collection system), waste management companies, industries and commerce. Sirplaste also operates as a service provider to clients requesting their waste to be shredded.

The company exports more than 50% of its production, supplying plastics manufacturing companies such as pipes manufacturers (irrigation and civil construction), films (trash bags and plastic sleeves), molded parts (buckets, seals, crates, vases, coat hangers, etc.) and blowing (barrels, octopus pots and detergent bottles).
In 2002, after 25 years as a private limited liability company, Sirplaste became a public limited company (S.A.) and increased its share capital to €1,000,000.

Certain that only strong investment in quality would allow the company to compete in the global market, Sirplaste certified its quality management system according to the ISO 9002 standard in 2000, making the transition to the ISO 9001:2000 standard in 2003.

Since Sirplaste is an accredited operator of Sociedade Ponto Verde for the reuse and recycling of plastic packaging, therefore playing a key environmental role, the company naturally decided in 2004 to be certified according to the ISO 14001 environmental standard, which was incorporated with the pre-existing quality management system.

Sirplaste decided to build a new production plant located in Porto de Mós to better meet the demands of the market.

This new plant has a roofed area of 23,000 m2 located on a plot of 145,000 m2. It has an annual recycling capacity of 45,000 tons/year of plastic waste.
