All different types of materials like plastic, metal, aluminum, PET film etc. can be coated with PlasmaPlus®. Plasma polymerization with the PlasmaPlus® process is already being used successfully for surface coating in a large number of different industrial applications.

Improvement of barrier characteristics of plastics for packaging using plasma polymer nanocoating Paintability with long-term stability and resulting high flexibility in manufacturing thanks to nanocoating with PlasmaPlus® PT Release coatings, for injection molding tools, allow a high number of process cycles without the components having to be stressed with release agents that contain silicone. PT Bond coatings assure long-term adhesion in the adhesive joint. Because of their good barrier effect, corrosion protection coatings with PlasmaPlus® offer extremely high corrosion protection with long term resistance to corrosive electrolytes – especially for aluminum alloys.

Plasma-SealTight®: Plasma Sealing Technology
Plasma Sealing Technology (PST) is an innovative plasma coating for plastic-to-metal bonds in the injection molding process. As a result of developing new precursors and extensively adapting the plasma parameters, the designers of the PST process have succeeded in selectively incorporating several functions into a single layer. These include good bonding to the metal surface, enhanced corrosion resistance, the formation of a barrier to media and oxidation and adhesion-promoting properties for plastics. Whilst the silicon contained in the layer facilitates layer adhesion to metal and metal oxide, silicon oxide is responsible for the barrier effect and media tightness. The organic components in the layer (functional groups) are responsible for the adhesive bond with the polymer. As a further plus point, this coating is non-hazardous, low-odor and environmentally friendly.
The PST process not only ensures the strong adhesion of the material bond, but also its media tightness and the corrosion resistance of the metal inlay. The covalently bonded plasma polymer seal forms a long-time stable barrier to water, salt solutions, oils and gases and prevents these media migrating below the surface. If water penetrates the boundary layer of the plastic-to-metal bond, it can lead to corrosion, failure of the component function or even delamination. Since the plasma polymer layer fills every cavity, leaving the water no opportunity to penetrate the boundary layer, the covalent bond provides corrosion protection.
Atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment is one of the most efficient plasma processes for cleaning, activating or coating plastics, metals, (e.g., aluminum), recycled materials and composite materials. During ultrafine cleaning with Openair® plasma (plasma cleaning), surfaces are gently and safely cleaned of release agents and additives and sterilized (plasma sterilization), while plasma activation makes later adhesion of glues and coatings possible. By using the nanocoating PlasmaPlus® (plasma coating), functionalized surface characteristics can also be produced that meet special product requirements.
