SO.F.TER. OBTAINS CSTB APPROVAL FOR WINDOW GASKETS
Two specific grades for the production of resistant, durable and non-stainable gaskets.
SO.F.TER. is glad to introduce the new LAPRENE (TPE-S) for the production of gaskets for windows and glazed façades, approved by the prestigious French certification authority CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Batiment).
The new products, called LAPRENE 83E200A60/CB (natural color) and LAPRENE 83E29ZA60/CB (black color), have been developed to meet the high quality standards of the gaskets for building sector: high elasto-mechanical properties, excellent weathering and UV resistance and durable performance are the main strengths of the new LAPRENE. Moreover, thanks to the special formulation, gaskets leave no stain on adjoining surfaces and can be installed on any kind of window fixtures (wooden, aluminum, PVC).
Both approved grades have successfully passed rigorous physical-chemical controls, UV ageing tests, and temperature resistance tests as prescribed by the CSTB standard EC02, obtaining the approval as materials of “Class 4 + 5” (the highest of the standard), with operating temperatures from -25 °C to 100 °C.
CSTB is one of the most important French certification authorities for the building and construction sector. The CSTB approval is a fundamental requirement to operate in the French market and is recognized at a European level as a synonym for product and process quality.
The LITEPOL® engineering polymers with hollow glass microspheres reduce the weight of plastic parts by up to 30%, which means potential CO2 emission savings of 1000 tons per car.
LITEPOL® is the name of the new compound line with hollow glass microspheres for lightweight applications presented by SO.F.TER. last October at Fakuma Exhibition. After the Polypropylene grades, already approved by FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, SO.F.TER. is now introducing the new LITEPOL B® grades based on Polyamide 6.
In the various configurations currently available, LITEPOL® products ensure weight reduction, good strength and shock resistance, shorter cycle times and exceptional dimensional stability of the molded parts.
The possibility of using glass microspheres alone or in combination with chemically bonded glass fiber allows for modulation of the material properties, achieving exactly the required goal in terms of lightness, mechanical performance and price. The focus of LITEPOL® is thus on maximum versatility and adaptability, qualities that make this product range extremely appealing for the automotive industry, especially in consideration of the new limits on CO2 emissions set at 95 g/km starting from 2021.
It has been calculated that a 30% weight reduction of the 225 kg of plastics contained in an average-sized car would result in curtailing CO2 emissions by about 1000 tons per car, considering an average mileage of 150,000 km.
LITEPOL® can be used on standard injection molding equipment and requires no technology investment by its users.
