Our products

Product category: Heating elements

HotMicroCoil Heating Elements

Our HotMicroCoil Heaters have a varied operative range. Most important applications are nozzles for hot runner systems or hot melting nozzles. Continuous process improvement is the guarantee for our continuously high level of quality. Hot-/ MicroCoil heaters can be supplied coiled to your requirements or just straight to be coiled afterwards. For HotCoils it is also possible to integrate a thermocouple.

In linguistic usage occasionally these terms are used:
coil heaters, nozzle heating elements, hot runner heating elements, cable nozzle heaters

Tubular Heaters

Tubular heaters are used for almost every kind of heating appliances. They are easy to form and feature highest mechanic stability and electric properties at the same time. Even though tubular heaters are technically rather mature and universal to use, there exist various new innovative solutions for many applications. Thus flexible tubular heaters (see chapter Flexible Tubular Heaters) have developed to be a new industry standard for the use in heating platens, welding bars and manifolds. Screw in tubular heaters are standardised for use in liquids like water. Finned tubular heaters are especially for air-heating-cabinets or tunnels.

Cartridge Heaters

Cartridge heaters are reasonably priced, robust and easy to install. As a rule they consist of a cylindrical stainless steel tube and thus provide a high corrosion prevention. There is a heating wire inside which is wound onto a ceramic core. The number of coils varies depending on the power. In order to avoid a short-circuit, the cartridge heater is filled with magnesium oxide and compressed afterwards. Highly compacted they reach a surface watt density of up to 50 W/cm² and withstand highest stress.

In the plastics industry cartridge heaters are used in hot runners in order to temper thermoplasts during injection moulding processes. Other areas of applications for process heat are e. g. diecasting or continuous casting in which zinc or aluminium are processed. Further applications are to be found in mechanical as well as medical and laboratory engineering.

Apart from our broad standard range we also develop and manufacture cartridge heaters according to your special demands.

Occasionally also these terms are used for cartridge heates: heating cartridge, insertion heaters, spiral cartridge heaters.

Infrared Heaters

When infrared energy strikes an object it is either absorbed, transmitted or reflected from the surface. Most materials encountered in industry are best suited for infrared heating as their maximum absorption occurs amidst the infrared spectrum at wavelengths between 2 - 10 µm. As infrared is a non-contact heating process, there is a rapid energy transfer from the heater to the product. Infrared heaters can be operated in vacuum or atmosphere.

Heating Bands

Heating bands are the ideal solution for the heating of tubes an cylinders. UGL is a mica nozzle heater, made with a plastic-tight stainless steel casing and available with thermocouple on request. UGL is in many dimension available from stock (table page 2). For all other dimensions (dia < 70 mm) you could use micaflex. The Ceramic heating band type Keraplast is suitable specially for applications with high watt density and therefore for higher temperatures.

Thermo Sensors

Thermo Sensors are needed in any controlled heating process. For various applications different types of thermocouples are obtainable. Most common are thermocouples (TC) and resistance sensors (RS). Both types are available in the same executions as a matter of princible. For non-contact measuring infrared sensors are the rights choice, either in stationary executions or as portable measuring instrument

Flat Heating Elements

Flat Heating Elements are used wherever a flat side has to be heated symmetrically and effectively. Constructed of winded heating wire and two shifts of insulation, custom-made adaption to nearly any surface dimension is possible. Simultaneously an optimal heat allocation over the heated flat side is achieved. Working temperatures up to 450 °C (exceptions up to 600 °C) and surface load up to 5 W/cm² are possible at optimal heat transition.

Company details

Friedrich Freek GmbH is a family business with its registered head office in Menden, Sauerland, Germany; the company operates worldwide. We develop, produce, and sell electric heating elements for industrial applications; when it comes to heating operations in the plastics industry our products really set the standard.

We have a global reputation as specialists in process heat technology; ever since 1950 we have been providing reliable, top-quality products "Made in Germany" from a single source. Freek supplies heating elements to numerous reputed manufacturers and market leaders in all sectors - both the traditional and the young and expanding. Our customers are not only from plastics and packaging industries but also companies involved in medical and laboratory equipment, air-conditioning, canteen kitchens, solar and wind energy, aviation and aerospace.

Today our core business is the production of highly innovative HotMicroCoils - often used as electric nozzle heating elements for hot runners in injection moulding.

But our product spectrum is much broader than that - offering customers all sorts of industrial-standard heating elements. This does not only include HotMicroCoils but also a wide range of heating elements - tubular, cartridge, infrared, flat, foil, and air heaters, and also the complete range of measuring and controlling technology.

With our intelligent value-added system, our flexible machines, our innovative product and production concepts, and our various specialist competences Freek now serves more than 1000 customers worldwide every year.

All this could not be achieved without our highly motivated staff. They make all the difference! They sustain our tried and tested quick response system. For our customers that means short delivery times and maximum flexibility. Freek stands above all for sustained growth through innovation.

We develop new ideas - ideally in co-operation with our customers and our many international partners and with the support of numerous scientists - also within the framework of joint research projects under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Stefan Kaiser, Managing Director: "We offer innovative solutions, customized for your application in plastics and packaging technology and wherever electric process heat determines product quality and process speed."
