Cristobalite

Cristobalite is a high-temperature polymorph of silica.

Since the natural resources of cristobalite are not sufficient for industrial use, it has to be synthetised by the conversion of quartz in a rotary kiln at high temperature (>1500°C) with the assistance of a catalyst.

Plastic Clay

An extremely rare mineral, plastic clay (sometimes known as ball clay) is only found in a handful of locations around the world.

It’s a sedimentary material, made from kaolinite or decomposed granite that has been mixed through river action with other clays, sands, gravel and vegetation.

The plasticity of this mineral ensures that the main use of plastic clay is as a base material in the manufacture of ceramics. Plastic clays have a wide range of colours, but when fired, selected clays give results that are pure white.

Limestone and Dolomite
