IR Heating Modules

Some technical solutions require flexibility for arranging heating zones over wide areas. This is why USHIO came up with a modular heating unit. It is made of a stainless steel housing and incorporates USHIO’s bended single-tube emitters. The heating modules can be arranged parallel and perpendicular to the lamp axis. They can be directly connected by panels and an optional frame.

Infrared Lamps for PET Blow-Moulding Equipment

Due to the longitudinal dimensions of IR-emitters the radiation is radial. By using a reflector, the radiation can easily be directed, increasing usable IR power up to 170 %. Integrated or external reflectors can be used depending on the application. Integrated reflectors guarantee high quality, easy handling and heat protection of the IR-emitter’s housing.

Integrated reflectors are directly flame-sprayed on the quartz tube. In most cases the reflector is made of alumina ceramic. It has an efficiency of approx. 80 %.
The high temperature resistance of the alumina ceramic reflector of up to 1000 ºC also helps even in applications without forced air cooling to guarantee the reflector functionality over the lamp’s life. The effectiveness is shown in the graphics on the left. It is customary to use the terms short wave, medium wave and long wave to classify IR-emitters. These definitions are easily remembered, but from a technical point of view they are incorrect.

Verfahren zum Testen der Preform-Entkeimung in Streckblasmaschinen

Mit dem von USHIO Europe entwickelten UV-Desinfektionskopf hat der Hersteller von Streckblasmaschinen die Möglichkeit, eine Entkeimungslösung anzubieten, die selbst bei Flaschengeschwindigkeiten von 50.000 Flaschen pro Stunde und mehr Keim-abtötungsraten zwischen log 4 und log 6 ermöglicht. Dadurch, dass der Strahlkopf direkt vor der Blasstation eingebaut wird, kann zwischen dem Bestrahlen und Blasen der Flaschen keine erneute Verkeimung stattfinden.

Die Nachfrage nach der Entkeimung von Preformen wächst stetig, zum einen durch die wachsende Sensibilität bei Themen der Lebensmittelsicherheit und Hygiene, zum anderen aber auch durch die Einführung von energiesparenden Streck-Blas-Lösungen, die mit niedrigeren Temperaturen auskommen wodurch aber die thermische Reduzierung von Bakterien, Viren, Pilzen und Sporen sinkt.

Zusammen mit Partnern aus der PET-Streckblasmaschinenherstellung hat USHIO eine Serie hochwertiger und kompakter Geräte zur Keimreduktion konzipiert, die einfach in bestehende Maschinen integrierbar sind.

So können für die entsprechenden Gerätegrößen und -kapazitäten kompakte Geräte angeboten werden, die auch bei hohen Leistungen bis zu 50.000 Flaschen pro Stunde gute Keimreduktionsergebnisse erzielen.

Zur Quantifizierung der Keimreduktion hat USHIO Europe B.V. bei dem auf Hygiene-Anwendungen spezialisierten Labor SMP GmbH Untersuchungen zur Entkeimung von Preformen durchführen lassen.

Als Testorganismus wurden E.coli-Bakterien ausgewählt. Zum einen werden diese Bakterien in vielen Hygienenormen als Testorganismus vorgegeben, zum anderen handelt es sich bei E.coli-Bakterien um die Bakterienart, über welche die meisten Veröffentlichungen zum UV-Einfluss existieren.

Inokulationsstellen an den Preformen

Bei den Untersuchungen wurden an den Preformen drei Inokulationsstellen definiert:

Äußeres Gewinde: Dieser Ort wird nach der Entkeimung nicht mehr erwärmt. Zugleich ist dieser Bereich nicht hermetisch vom Getränk abgeschlossen und wird bei der Verwendung oft direkt in Kontakt mit dem Mund gebracht;
Mitte der inneren Oberfläche: Dieser Ort steht für die durchschnittliche Entkeimung über die innere Oberfläche;
Unterster innerer Punkt der Preform: Dieser oft noch in einer Mulde liegende Punkt ist der Punkt mit der niedrigsten UV-Bestrahlung und somit der niedrigsten Keimreduktion.

Durchführung der Untersuchungen

Es wird eine E. coli-Lösung hergestellt, bei der 0,01 ml mindestens 10^7 koloniebildende Einheiten enthalten.
0,01 ml der Lösung werden mit einer sterilen Pipette an jedem Messpunkt aufgebracht.
Die Preformen werden für die Dauer von 60 Minuten angetrocknet (dies soll verhindern, dass sich durch die Bewegung der Preformen die Inokulatationsstelle verwischt).
Die zu untersuchenden Preformen werden mit der definierten Geschwindigkeit und der dokumen-tierten Lampenleistung bestrahlt.
Am Messpunkt 1 werden die verbleibenden Bakterien mit sterilen Wattestäbchen abgenommen. Die verbliebenen Bakterien werden in Reagenzgläsern, gefüllt mit 10 ml TSB, im Ultraschallbad bei 40 °C für die Dauer von 15 Minuten gelöst. Danach wird die Lösung 10 Sekunden lang geschüttelt.
Zur Bewertung der Messpunkte 2 und 3 werden 10 ml TSB in die Preformen gefüllt. Danach werden im Ultraschallbad bei 40 °C für die Dauer von 15 Minuten die verbliebenen Bakterien gelöst. Zum Schluss wird die Lösung für 10 Sekunden lang geschüttelt.Die Entnahme erfolgt laut ISO-11737-1.

Insgesamt muss immer bedacht werden, dass es sich bei der Keimabtötung um einen statischen Prozess handelt und deshalb mit einer einmaligen Messung an einer Stelle kein signifikantes Ergebnis erzielt werden kann. Deshalb werden für jeden Messpunkt 9 unabhängige Messungen durchgeführt. Außerdem können Varianzen der Testbedingungen (unterschiedlicher Trocknungsgrad, Alter der koloniebildenden Einheiten etc.) zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen führen, so dass der ermittelte Wert in der Kinetik der Keimabtötung nur als Schätzwert gelten kann und allein mit den simulierten oder gemessenen Strahlungsdosen ein aussagekräftiges Ergebnis ergibt.
