MTI C tec PRO – the revolution of the conventional concept in batch mixing and the new benchmark for efficiency and so far unrivalled flexibility. The six axes of the robot allow almost any motion of the mixing container, even for processes without rotating mixing tools.

While at previously favoured machines the mixing head is permanently fixed and has to be cleaned manually when changing the product, the MTI C tec PRO never gets into contact with the mixture.

A completely closed system is generated through the innovative lid design with integrated mixing shaft which enables various tool configurations. Each new batch can therefore be processed by using individual tools without any manual modification of the machine itself.

As the MTI C tec PRO is never contaminated by the mixing product, the sequence of recipes can be combined individually. From black to white without any downtime of the machine – the MTI C tec PRO marks the new status quo.

The MTI C tec PRO replaces several conventional batch mixers within a production line and different machine sizes become obsolete. The usual complexity in production planning drops with a simultaneous increase in capacity and flexibility.

The sequence in using different container sizes (up to 600 l) for ideal filling level of each container is not limited at all, leading to a significant optimisation of production planning and material flow management – for reproducible best quality of the mix.

Only the new MTI C tec PRO allows a remarkable decrease of manufacturing costs, ensuring your future competitiveness. While conventional container mixers require numerous manual production steps that eventually limit the overall capacity, the MTI C tec PRO automates individual operations for maximum productivity.

MTI C tec PRO provides batch mixing without downtimes

Mixing 4.0 – New revolutionary concept by MTI Mischtechnik

Detmold and Düsseldorf/Germany, 19 October 2016 – C tec PRO is an all newly developed, fully automatic container mixer system launched by MTI Mischtechnik. Unlike all previous machines designed for this kind of task, it imposes no idle time for cleaning in the event of a recipe switch. For each new batch, the new MTI C tec PRO changes the relevant container along with its lid carrying the pre-fitted mixing tool. This makes for a virtually continuous operation and hence, a significant increase in the number of batches completed. Moreover, the container size and mixing tool configuration are adaptable to individual requirements and can be optimized for the production volume of each given batch. The high level of automation ensures that the potential time savings are actually realized in real-life industrial operation, irrespective of the number of batches handled. 

All mixing processes are performed without manual production steps.  By way of preparation, weighing is performed in accordance with the given recipe and the container is placed in a central pick-up station from where the first vessel in line is then removed by the MTI C tec PRO. From this moment on, the unit executes the specific mixing process fully automatically, ultimately returning the container to a delivery point upon completion of the program. Key to this workflow, apart from the custom optimized KUKA industrial robot, is the new container lid with an integrated mixer shaft capable of accommodating diverse mixing tool configurations. The result is a fully closed system in which the mixing takes place either with the aid of a mixing tool individually predefined for the given batch or without any tooling if so preselected for the recipe.

MTI's Christian Honemeyer, managing director of the family-owned company based in Detmold/Germany, comments: "With the C tec PRO, MTI defines a new industrial standard regarding the cost efficiency and flexibility of container mixers. On existing systems, the mixing head is rigidly connected to the machine and must be manually cleaned upon every product change. The closed-system principle adopted for the MTI C tec PRO, on the other hand, supports a freely selectable combination of different mixing recipes. Thus, a changeover from black to white can be effected without any machine standstill. At the same time, the new C tec PRO blends in smoothly with the world of Industry 4.0, given that the number of degrees of freedom in the process management permits features such as, e.g., an automated adjustment to changing raw material properties.“

As different container volumes – from 100 to 600 liters – can be combined in a freely selectable manner, a single MTI C tec PRO can replace several conventional container mixers and even different machine sizes in day-to-day-operation.  Production planning thus becomes vastly less complex, notwithstanding the superior capacity and flexibility achieved. And since the process is invariably carried out with the optimum fill level, the user not only benefits from a constant outstanding mixing quality but will also need fewer containers.

Mr. Honemeyer adds: "With the MTI C tec PRO, we supply a system that enables our customers to boost their productively significantly, by a factor of three or even four. In addition, we open up ways for them to optimize their personnel situation. With conventional equipment involving much manual intervention, high fluctuation levels and a shortage of available skilled staff are often characteristic.  Our new batch mixer provides a clean work environment, supports a clear reduction in staff and thus contributes to a further improvement in the cost structure of the production line."

MTI also treads new paths in financing for the C tec PRO. Instead of the one-time cost of acquisition, the company charges monthly system and service costs to the operators of the new batch mixers as part of a full-service plan. The latter includes all spare and wearing parts for a 36-month period in addition to an annual preventive maintenance plus online support provided by experts from the company's Detmold site.

Launching Vent tec® 2.0 as a world first: High-performance mixer aspiration ensures constant process conditions

Detmold/Germany, July 2016 – With the launch of Vent tec 2.0, MTI Mischtechnik presents a new generation of its proven high-performance aspiration systems for heating/cooling mixer combinations. Unlike conventional solutions, these devices are the first ever to control their operation autonomously as a function of actual process parameters, thereby providing constant processing conditions irrespectively of changes in process and ambient conditions. Accordingly, they significantly facilitate the task of maintaining uniformly high product quality in the plastics processing and chemicals industry.

Main applications include the production of rigid and soft PVC dryblends and natural fibre compounds (WPC/NFC/PPC) as well as thermal processes where Vent tec 2.0 devices serve to dehumidify the mixture and/or to reduce the volatiles content. The new generation aspirator systems are available in various sizes for all mixing volumes and accommodating nearly all ATEX environments and mixer designs. Thanks to their autonomous control technology, they can also be retrofitted on other manufacturers' machines.

Prevents deposits, saves time and cost

At process temperatures markedly exceeding the boiling point of water, even low humidity levels may interfere with the process. This is even more relevant for PVC recipes containing hygroscopic stabiliser systems. Without a high-performance aspiration capability, the result may often be massive deposits on the interior surfaces of heating mixers, cooling mixer walls and extruder dies, as well as in calibration devices. The potential consequences may include a diminished mixing quality, extruder problems and fluctuations in the final product. In all such situations, Vent tec mixer aspiration technology by MTI Mischtechnik provides the necessary uniformly high dehumidification rates for constant production results. Compensating effectively for variations in raw material moisture and seasonal influences on the processing properties of the mixture, these systems provide an unvaryingly high dryblend quality with ultimate humidities ranging down to below 0.05%.

For the manufacturer, this high performance leads to compelling advantages. Thus, an almost fully dehumidified dryblend will permit a high output of downstream machinery. Little or no deposits minimise the time and cost of cleaning the mixing system and all additional equipment, while a constantly high product quality reduces scrap. Together, these three benefits can provide significant cost savings and extended maintenance intervals, thereby resulting in a clearly increased availability of the entire production line.

Closed-loop control for constant drying performance

More traditional aspirator systems would not take into account changing process parameters but instead activate/deactivate the exhaust air system as dictated by the process, with filter cleaning being performed at fixed pre-defined trigger points. This approach is typically linked with disadvantages such as diminishing air output due to progressive filter contamination, causing quality variations in the final product. MTI Mischtechnik's Vent tec 2.0 aspiration systems, in contrast, continuously monitor all actual operating conditions via key parameters such as intake air and system air temperatures, air pressure, humidity and, with high significance, the aspiration air flow rate. Their electronic controller continuously analyses these variables and adjusts the aspiration system accordingly with due regard to the filter status, keeping aeration airflow conditions constant. In addition, the system reports incipient wear of the process filter at an early stage, thereby allowing preventive maintenance to be carried out. Thus, Vent tec 2.0 aspirator systems are key to both constantly high drying performance and product quality.
