Lights Out Molding

Introduction

In recent years, the challenges for plastics molding companies to compete and succeed have increased dramatically. A global economy, price pressures and customer demands have led to the need for molders to operate more efficiently and productively than ever before.

Molding unattended around the clock, or 'lights-out molding', is not a new concept, but it is one that has been adopted by more and more molders in their efforts to increase profitability. The importance of properly managing a molding plant's operations when there are fewer or sometimes, no human operators on the plant floor, cannot be overstated. If a series of protocols and contingencies are not in place, the problems that can occur with operating machinery can lead to disastrous results.

Gammaflux has created the following guidelines after many years of hands-on experience working with customers who run lights-out operations. As a hot runner temperature controller supplier, Gammaflux products include numerous safety features to detect and prevent trouble from occurring in the hot runner system and injection mold. But beyond the mold, there are other procedures that should be followed to ensure the entire molding operation, including the molding machines and auxiliaries, are operating smoothly. The following procedures are strongly recommended to ensure that early detection of problems occurs and the proper corrective actions are in place.

Triangulated Control Technology

All Gammaflux temperature controllers feature Triangulated Control Technology®. Using this unique technology, our controllers:

Sense – Twenty (20) times per second, Gammaflux controllers precisely measure the temperature.

Control – The proprietary self-optimizing Gammaflux PID2 control algorithm adjusts if the actual temperature deviates 0.03°F (0.014°C) from set point. The second derivative (PID2) monitors the actual temperature rate of change. As a result, the output to the heater is regulated in advance of the typical proportional band to limit or eliminate over and undershoot.

Actuate – Using phase angle fired output (0.1% resolution; 1,000 steps), the Gammaflux controller delivers smooth and exact power to each heater for the ultimate in temperature control.

Triangulating your process with a Gammaflux controller means achieving better temperature control, which could result in:

2. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, which sets forth requirements for the collection, treatment, and recycling of electronic waste.

Our commitment to the RoHS and WEEE Directives is demonstrated in the following activities and policies:

RoHS compliance: All products supplied by Gammaflux and initially placed on the EU market after July 1, 2006 meet with the requirements of the RoHS Directive, under the equipment category 9 of the WEEE/RoHS Directives which is "monitoring and control equipment" Gammaflux products are purely for other users than private households (i.e. they are "pure B2B-Products") (Product units placed on the EU market before July 1, 2006 or spare parts for the repair of units placed on the market before that date are outside the scope of the RoHS Directive.)

WEEE compliance: Gammaflux provides an easy way to recycle all our products subject to European Directive 2002/96/EC for WEEE. These products are clearly marked with the WEEE logo (crossed-out wheelie bin). In addition, Gammaflux is registered as a WEEE Producer in Germany at the elektro-altger?te register or EAR.

Gammaflux has established a product recycling process supporting all EU customer locations. EU customers may contact their Gammaflux Service/Sales Representative or Gammaflux distributor to arrange for the collection/take-back of Gammaflux products for proper recycling or if they so choose recycle the product through there own official channels to save shipping costs.
