Innovations for more efficiency and reliability
Surface technology is facing a radical change: 50 years ago, corona technology upended film extrusion and finishing; today, it is the increasing success of atmospheric pressure plasma that is changing surface technology. Then, electrical corona discharges rendered obsolete many chemical adhesive agents; today, many other chemical pretreatment processes such as the application of primer and top coats are being replaced by plasma surface-modification processes. Advantages of Plasma Surface Treatment: even thinner layers
Plasma technology strives to allow the application of ever thinner layers onto the material to be treated. When applying liquids to surfaces, the resulting layer typically has a thickness of a few micrometers.

Cut in material leads to stunning cost effectiveness
Taken to the limit, plasma technology can be used to apply nothing more than a molecular monolayer. This means up to 90% cost savings compared to surface coating with a conventional primer or top coat application.

EDGE - Foams and Fibrebased Material

Polymer foams, mostly for adhesive tapes, play an increasingly important role in profitable converting applications. Nevertheless, economy and ecology do not always allow for fluorinated foams. On the other hand, new light weight foams are no good candidates for corona treatment, particularly not in case of higher thicknesses.

In this case Plasmawerks EDGE technology offers the ideal tool for polymer foam treatment. With EDGE there is absolutely no risk of perforating or burning the foam, since the systems can be operated in a standard corona mode, also polymer films will be treated without compromise.

Corona for Biax

The wide web corona treating modules of the PCM series are designed and built with the needs and wishes of our Biax and Cast film customers in mind. They are the result of direct evolution from an elder, well proven treater station design, offering a number of improvements and important new key features.

Optimum ozone retention is guaranteed, thanks to better encapsulation of the treatment roller by form fitting electrode assemblies. Dripping of condensate out of the electrodes onto the film or roller is eliminated and high voltage insulators are kept clean and dry for hassle free power on. The durability against impacts in case of web breaks is improved, thanks to rugged stainless steel electrode housings. In addition, spring loaded electrode housings do allow for safer and quicker retraction of the electrodes in case of web breaks.

Overall durability and corrosion resistance was much improved by completely eliminating plastics and aluminum from the electrode design, which is now 100% stainless steel and ceramics.
