World premiere of KraussMaffei Berstorff‘s ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder – boosting performance and volume

(Hannover / Düsseldorf, 16th October 2013) At K 2013 in Düsseldorf from October 16 to 23 in hall 15 (booth B27 / C24 / C27 / D24, another ground-breaking KraussMaffei Berstorff development will make its debut - the new ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder series with numerous innovative features in terms of energy efficiency and process engineering. This series combines operating point optimization of the drive system, including water-cooled threephase motor and high-efficiency gear unit, with a completely redesigned processing section.

Increased free volume and higher torque density

“The new ZE BluePower enables our customers to reliably meet the ever increasing market demands as to output rate, product quality, process reliability and flexibility on a long-term basis”, explains Peter Roos, President of the Extrusion Technology Segment and of the KraussMaffei Berstorff brand. “As compared to the previous ZE A UTX series, the ZE BluePower features an increased OD/ID diameter ratio of 1.65, which gives a 30% higher torque density of up to 16 Nm/cm³”, adds Peter Roos. The KraussMaffei Berstorff specialists have optimized the tooth profiles of screw shaft and screw elements, the screw preloading system and the geometry of the connecting sleeves in order to safely transmit and fully exploit the high torque in the process. Combined with innovative screw concepts that are tailored to specific applications, the ZE BluePower extruder gives substantially higher output rates at considerably lower energy consumption.

Optimum wear protection

Numerous technical improvements implemented in the ZE BluePower series provide increased availability and unparalleled ease of maintenance in 24/7 production mode. To achieve effective wear protection for all applications, KraussMaffei Berstorff has complemented the range of patented induction hardened or powder-coated barrel sections by new wear liners. Thanks to unparalleled fitting accuracy and axial fastening, the elliptical collar liners provide optimum heat transfer and perfect tightness of the processing chamber.

Highly flexible processing section

The modular range of barrel sections with 4 and 6D lengths - equipped with the proven C-clamp system for rapid and safe barrel section replacement - and the wide variety of different screw elements ensure uncompromising flexibility in the development of customized solutions for specific applications. The combination of increased free volume in the processing section and higher torque gives cost-effective compounding. Thanks to improved side feeders and various hold-down devices, the extruder provides maximum output rates.

New application-oriented base frame concept

The ZE BluePower series features a new base frame concept, which ensures easy and rapid access to the different machine components. With this innovative solution, peripheral equipment and control systems can either be integrated into the base frame or mounted separately. It goes without saying that - like the predecessor series - the BluePower twin-screw extruders are equipped with the tried and tested Advance ProcessControl for easy and user-friendly operation.
