Wacker: Silicones and silicone elastomers

Elastosil LR 3022/60 is a coolant-resistant LSR which ensures very good sealing properties, since it retains a low compression set, even under long-term load in direct contact even with hot coolants up to 125 °C. This makes the novel silicone a suitable choice in the manufacture of seals for engine cooling circuits. The product is designed for injection moulding.
For the manufacture of components for vibration damping, suppliers to the automotive industry can now use the new solid silicone rubbers Elastosil R 752/30 and R 752/70. The two grades complement the existing R 752 product range. All R 752 grades are peroxide curing solid silicone rubbers and can be processed by conventional compression moulding and by injection moulding. The outstanding feature of the new Elastosil R 756 product line is the remarkable heat resistance of the vulcanised product. Depending on the heat stabiliser added during compounding, the vulcanisates can withstand temperatures up to 300 °C (up to 2 weeks) or 250 °C (1,000 h and more). This makes these new silicone grades ideal for use in self-cleaning ovens and stoves or in automotive applications such as the engine compartment. They can be extruded and injection-moulded.Elastosil R781/80 is according to Wacker the first magnetic silicone rubber. The highly filled silicone elastomer contains 70 wt% magnetite and has an 80 Shore A hardness. The ingredients used are in compliance with the recommendations of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR, XV. Silicones, IX. Colorants) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These magnetic silicones are of particular interest to manufacturers of household appliances such as refrigerators and baking moulds. Quality assurance systems in the food and medical sectors could also benefit from the new silicones. The product can be processed directly, or else compounded with other silicones prior to further processing.
Silpuran AUX 8250 RO is a masterbatch containing 75 % barium sulfate. It is biocompatible (according to selected ISO 10993 and USP class VI tests) and therefore suited for medical tubing and for moulded parts for short term insertion (up to 30 days) which have to be X-ray detectable (e. g. catheters). For the energy and lighting industries Wacker will present Powersil 570Plus, a solvent-free one-component emulsion for the coating of glass or porcelain insulators, the Lumisil LR 7600 LSR series that cure to form highly transparent elastomers ideal for the manufacture of lenses and other optical elements in lighting technology, and Semicosil R 915 HT silicone gel for the encapsulation of power electronic modules.
Elastosil Cat Neo are new tin-free catalysts for condensation-curing silicone rubber grades tailored specifically for all of the base components of Elastosil M mouldmaking compounds. Processing and properties of the resulting silicone rubber are the same as for compounds cured with standard catalysts. Under the brand name Vinnex Wacker offers vinyl-acetate-based polymer binders for bioplastics.Hall 6, stand A10
