Chemion Logistik GmbH

Viewed holistically and centrally coordinated on site

Leverkusen, October 19th, 2010. The efficiency of transports is decided on site – under this motto Chemion Logistik is presenting its service portfolio, „On site Logistics“, from 27th October until 3rd November 2010 at the K Trade Fair in Düsseldorf. Chemion integrates on-site services in the transport process, thereby developing holistic and individual solutions and providing the customer with a real added value.

„We use our logistic concepts to pursue the objective of developing holistic solutions for our customers, that do not come to an end when the service or product range is over but rather link different logistic areas with each other“, explained Ralf Thiesen, Head of Marketing and Sales at Chemion Logistik GmbH. The company specializes in handling hazardous goods and site logistics – areas in which a large number of individual services must be coordinated with each other and synchronized centrally. Since it is the individual services in particular performed on the last metres to the production plant that decide the efficiency of the whole logistics process. „Only if the provider’s service does not end at the buffer stop or at the plant borders, figuratively speaking, is the customer guaranteed an overall solution, providing him with a bonus of efficiency and security“, according to Head of Sales Thiesen. It is therefore necessary to not just focus on one logistics service, such as transporting materials by rail or truck, but also to take into account the processes taking place before or after the actual transport.

The linked observation of transport and logistics services close to the site results in an individual and efficient overall solution for the customer, which minimizes his internal coordinating operations. The prerequisite for Chemion’s holistic approach is many years of experience in controlling complex operational sequences at the location as well as a service portfolio, comprising all logistics services from A to Z. The availability of special equipment and infrastructure, such as service stations, workshops or warehouse facilities for handling hazardous goods safely is also an important factor; these facilities must be technically equipped for goods of various hazard classes so that chemical materials can be stored, handled and transported safely. Here too, Chemion is well placed: with container storage capacities of 1,760 TEU the service provider is one of the Top 10 German terminal operators. Included in its comprehensive equipment pool are 2,000 industrial trucks, of these 400 explosion-proof forklift trucks, making Chemion the largest operator of an explosion proof vehicle pool in Germany.

The bimodal and trimodal container terminals in Dormagen and Leverkusen enable Chemion to offer intermodal and conventional transport solutions as multimodal transports. Ralf Thiesen: „Thanks to our infrastructure and equipment we are very flexible in developing integrated logistics solutions. In this way, we can consistently think in processes, weigh up different approaches for our customers’ requests and in the end arrange the solution in such a way that it provides the company with the best possible added value.“

At the K Trade Fair Chemion will be presenting its service portfolio for on-site logistics at the joint Cologne Bonn Business (CBB) stand in hall 7a, booth D35.
