VersaFlex achieves highest approval for polyurea in potable water application

The AquaVers line of pure polyurea systems for potable water application is now qualified for use as an interior lining for barrier systems in tanks, vessels, storage containers, and pipes. The product line includes an aromatic system (AquaVers 405) an aliphatic system (AquaVers 201), and the aromatic structural system (AquaVers 415). These polyurea systems qualified with and without their CrobeFlex anti-microbial additive. AquaVers 20 primer may also be used in conjunction with the coatings. [image_0] The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) International is an independent, non-profit organisation that provides public health standards and certification that help protect the world's food, water, health and consumer products. Third-party certification means that an independent organisation has reviewed the manufacturing process of a product and has independently determined that the final product complies with specific standards for safety, quality or performance. This review typically includes comprehensive formulation/material reviews, testing and facility inspections.NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects; is the standard that establishes minimum health effects requirements for materials, components, products, or systems that contact drinking water, drinking water treatment chemicals, or both. Section 5 of the standard covers specific requirements for protective barrier materials/products such as sealers, coatings, paint, primer, mortar, Portland cements, cement ad-mixtures, etc.The VersaFlex AquaVers polyurea systems not only qualified to meet the requirements of the standard in cold water use (23 °C), but the the AquaVers 201 and Aquavers 405 were also tested and qualified for potable water usage in high temperature applications up to 60 +/- 2 °C (140 °F). This makes VersaFlex's AquaVers the only polyurea coating and liner system qualified for potable water application up to this higher temperature limit, says the company.Since the VersaFlex systems react and set very quickly, a cure point is reached within one hour of installation allowing for Holiday/Spark Testing as per NACE-SP 0188 testing for voids and pinholes.
