Vice president Burkhard Reuss confirmed the news to PIE - in February 2010, Total Petrochemicals (Paris / France; www.totalpetrochemicals.com) will restart its cracker in Carling / France. Total initially had aimed at restarting the facility housing two cracking lines in December 2009, but was forced to postpone due to "security reasons, French media allege. Reports indicate that the facility initially will be working at 60% of total capacity, with full production expected to resume in Q2.
Two workers lost their lives during an explosion at the site's steam cracker in July 2009 with production down ever since. At the time of the blast, Total had idled one of the two lines due to weak demand.
