Petrochemical group Tosoh (Tokyo / Japan; www.tosoh.com) plans to expand production at its PVC/VCM plant in Guangzhou, Guangdong province in south China. Reports indicate that the company wants to up the current capacity of 220,000 t/y by 300,000-400,000 t/y, effectively increasing Tosoh´s total VCM capacity to 1.6m t/y. The project is estimated to cost around EUR 110m. Tosoh already has launched talks with the government on implementation, with production slated to begin in 2012.
The plant is operated by Tosoh (Guangzhou) Chemical Industries Inc, which probably was established as a joint venture between Tosoh and Mitsubishi Chemicals. Today the plant, on stream since the beginning of 2007, is wholly owned by Tosoh.
