Ticona: PPS introduced for aggressive fuel environments

Ticona (Kelsterbach / Germany; www.ticona.com) has introduced “Fortron” 6162XF mineral/glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulphide (PPS), which is claimed to offer superior fuel resistance for applications in aggressive fuel systems. The new grade is over 45% lighter than “Fortron” 6165A6, which is already in use in fuel systems.

Both grades are suitable for applications requiring components that need high dimensional stability during storage in aggressive fuels, including impellers, outlet covers and fuel injector components. Ticona said that in 1,000-hour tests in CM15A fuel conducted at 90 °C the new material showed high fuel resistance, with a weight change of less than 1%.
